I've seen some at the store that say they contain no milk, gluten, soy, corn, yeast et., I think Country Life and Bluebonnet make one. So are these not truly milk-free? I see a lot of people here promoting dairy-free probiotics from fancy online companies and I'm wondering if those are somehow more dairy-free. Thanks!

I have a feeling that those of us talking about the expensive online ones are ones who have lots of allergies to avoid beyond just dairy...more hidden ones like corn because even when something says corn-free it's not to be trusted.

I would call the companies just to verify that there are no milk-derivatives, or that the bacteria wasn't grown on milk. Just because it says "does not contain" doesn't mean that dairy wasn't involved in the process somehow. It just means that they've processed out the proteins, so people with IgE allergies shouldn't react. Unfortunately people with dairy intolerances react to more than just the protein, so can still react to these products.

I haven't looked into those particular brands, so they very well may be safe. But I always call or email the companies to be sure. We've gotten burned on the "does not contain" line before.
