OK, I'M JEALOUS, I admit it.
:

I don't know how to knit, even though I'm a total craft junkie, and I'm always coming here and finding that thread at the top of this forum for the knitters. I know you knitters are plotting to get me started ("...resistance is futile"-Borg).

Anyone else in this boat with me? What crafts do you do besides knit?

Here's a starter list of what I do, though I'm sure I'll think of more...

make dried floral arrangements

sewing--mainly decorative items (no diapers here)
quilting

wet felting and needle felting (novice)
and I recently got a spinning wheel at a yard sale, and started to teach myself to spin, though I'm not going to knit with the yarn I make--would really like a loom someday but that's $$$

and my MIL knows about my addiction to new crafts and has started me down the scrapbooking road...dangerous ground there...

oh, yeah--by the way, I don't
and if you do, you can go to the other thread and talk about it :nana:

P.S. no hard feelings, knitters! :LOL

I can't knit. I am hoping to learn... I'm a beginner with crochet. I'm also trying sloooowly to learn how to sew. I have a duvet cover half finished, and then I tried to set up a workstation in our basement (for myself and the kids, to relieve the congestion at the kitchen table) and we're still in the process of organizing everything down here. So, that's on hold.

I would like to try making beads with the kids. I found instructions for making them online somewhere, bookmarked it... and then something happened with the computer and we lost all that info.

I also crochet but knitting escapes me. However, I checked out a couple of baby knit books yesterday and a book called The Joy of Knitting to inspire me to pick it up.

I do paper quilling, homemade cards, decorative painting, beaded jewelry and stuff, sewing, and whatever else strikes my fancy. I love to try anything.

I used to head up a crafting group that met once a month. We all took turns teaching each other different crafts. We met for three years. I miss that.

I get tired of feeling like crochet is so pedestrian compared to knitting.

Gah, I typed up a reply, and then closed the window instead of sending it.

Just wanted to say that I love crochet! There's lots you can do with it. I don't know much about knitting, so I don't know if it's as flexible as crochet, but here are some links:

Beaded crochet

wire crochet

crochet around a ring

There are so many different stitches in crochet. I like that, lots of variety. And you can do something as delicate as filet or as heavy as a rag rug .

Well...I admit I CAN knit, but I don't really WANT to ! LOL!

I love to crotchet, I love to spin but I hate weaving, and don't like to knit, so I don't know what I'd do with all the yarn I could spin!

I do sew, and sew, and sew, and sew.....

And nurse, and nurse and nurse... :2tandem

And I love to oogle over other people's cool creations... does that count???

I believe that counts! I'm always oogling at craft shows, too. I think I could knit if I tried, but I just can't handle another craft without cleaning out a closet, KWIM??? DH just about threw me out when I picked up the spinning wheel (though I do think he thought it was cool--now he's afraid I'm going to start raising sheep!)

I am very crafty: sewing, painting, sculpting, cake decorating. I made myself a piece of jewellry out of a large twist tie and a key ring. I recycle clothing and make fantasy costumes. I can turn a thrift store find into a medieval gown without a pattern. But I cannot KNIT! Actually that's not the whole truth. I can knit, I can purl, but I can't do them alternating! I decided when dd was 4 months old, she needed something knit by me, so I started on a square infant mitten. I decided that I would keep trucking no matter how crooked or uneven it got. It turned out alright but I never bothered to make a second one to have a pair. It's in the closet, as my first and probably last ever completed knitting project.
I would love to spin and weave. I wish I could knit a sweater. I love wool sweaters. Maybe we need a supprt/help program for non-knitters and wannabees?

Hey is there a "knitting for dummies" out there?

i swear i never even knew i had a crafty side but i love it!

I don't knit. I thought I should once, I really like most fiber arts. I bought the stuff, knitted a nice swatch, realized that I didn't like doing the same things over and over again, and put it away. My sister-in-law likes the repetition, as do many knitters I know, but it drives me bonkers
. Counted cross stitch is the same way for me.

My daughter wants to knit. She has been bringing her 'learn to knit' kit to family get-togethers for years, desperate for an aunt to teach her. They try, but there is never enough time to really learn, poor kid. Any knitters want to adopt her?

I too, am jealous of the knitting threads on this forum, and I'd like to make the cute soakers so I lurk
: occasionally, but it still really isn't me.

I do sew diapers, slings, costumes, clothing, home dec. I have also done beading, papermaking, calligraphy, embroidery, quilting, ceramics, faux paint finishes, and batik. I love to refinish furniture and do drywall mud.
And I make really cute babies
!

If you can make it with a glue gun I'm your girl! I have a sewing maching that I am learning how to use. I made a rag quilt for my mom last Christmas and fleese blankets with satin binding for my DS an his cousins. I'v also made the no-sew blankets and they were fun. I just emailed someone on Freecycle who has 5lb of sea salts to give away so I'm looking into making different bath salts for gifts this Christmas.

Knitting is completely foreign to me. I can crochet only one style and I don't even know what it's called (LOL). My passions are photography, sewing, scrapbooking, and rubber stamping. I've also done floral arranging, but I'm not really fond of it. And I've made my own candles before, but a friend makes them so much nicer that I just buy them from her now.

I knit when away from the house mostly. I crochet occasionally too.

Otherwise I weave, and tie knots to finish my weavings... I want to learn finger weaving and macrame to make my fringes more interesting.

I'm learning to spin on a wheel, slowly as I make payments towards a secondhand one. I can spin cotton on a small spindle, but the wheel will be so much faster! I'm planning to use what I spin for weft someday...but that's over a year away at this point.

I also paint occasionally: Matreshkas (nesting dolls) though I do my own designs.

I also sew, my latest thing being to turn pants into skirts. I have 3 and DH's comments that I don't have to do that to every pair of jeans I own.:LOL

Actually I am relatively new to knitting - I only took it up while I was pregnant so I would be able to knit soakers for my newborn.

I was always the crafty type, though. I sew (I worked in a costume shop in college so I can draft my own patterns too
) crochet, and all sorts of other types of arts & crafts.

Every year my family has an exchange where the gift has to be home-made. I've learned tons of different crafts that way (after all, there are only so many years you can give crocheted dish rags before everyone starts to moan
)

What do you weave? And what are you thinking of weaving in the future? This fascinates me because I started spinning and don't really want to knit or re-learn my crochet, but would love to weave (looms are $$$, though)!

I am very glad that I had a drop spindle and taught myself how to spin on that prior to starting on the wheel...otherwise I would have become so frustrated. I highly recommend the spindle as a starting point for anyone learning how to spin, because once you 'get it' the rest just seems to come naturally. Now that I've figured out the basics, I need to find someone to really teach me so I can learn the finer points of the craft. The yarn I've made so far is pretty, but very variable in thickness, etc. I'm thinking of heading to 'Old Bethpage' (an old fashioned village restoration), and sitting and watching someone spin for a few hours some day as a starter. I doubt anyone around here teaches classes, but I suppose it's possible.

I do so want to learn to knit, though. SOmeday (when I finish all the other projects, or DH will kill me!!)
