Can anyone recommend a makeup that is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. I stopped wearing makeup about 14 or 15 years ago b/c I didn't want to contribute to polluting my body or the environment. I think I would like to wear it *sometimes* and wanted to find one that would not pollute. Also, any make-ups that you can refill the containers rather than trash them?

This makeup is good for your skin. When I started using it I stopped getting blemishes and my skin tone has evened out. The containers are plastic though and not sure if they are recycleable or not. I think you can send them back to the company if you want. Makeup is great though and non-toxic and sooo sooo cheap!!!!(when you buy in kits)

I went to the site and ordered their free sample. The shipping was $3.09. I'm sure my two daughters will be only too willing to help me try them out. Even though I wasn't the one who brought up the questions, thanks for the link.

I'm gonna try this. My skin is always broke out. It gets worse if I use any liquid foundation.

Finding safe make-up has been a mission of mine for some time....it has been a rough road. So many companies claim to be safe. But when they are independently tested, they are not. You can't even trust what is sold in health food stores.<br><br>
My favorite site is <a href="http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com" target="_blank">http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com</a>. The Environmental Working Group's Skin Safe Database. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/treehugger.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Treehugger">:<br><br>
Just plug in your brand or product and this independent research group will rate your product on a scale of 0 to 10. 0 being "completely safe" and 10 being a "run away it will kill you."<br><br>
WARNING: The site is addicting. You will plug in every product in your home. You will call your mummy and plug in every product in her home. You will be horrified!<br><br>
Here are my reccomendations for lipstick:<br>
Afterglow Cosmetics<br>
Peacekeeper<br><br>
I haven't had much luck finding a good foundation that works well and is safe. I plan on doing more searching this fall after beach season.<br><br>
Good luck!

Traditionally, Physician's Formula makeup has had all kinds of nasty stuff in it. Then they came out with a minerals line. It still had some nasties in it, but it was better than their mainstream line of makeup. Then recently, they came out with a line of organic minerals. I saw them in Target recently, and I swear I read the ingredients 20 times because I couldn't believe there wasn't anything bad in it. I was so excited because I don't have a lot of money to spend, and I was rather tired of having to order expensive mineral makeup off the internet and then pay shipping on top of the cost. So, I've been using the Physician's Formula Organic line, and I love it. My skin is clear, and it makes my face look so smooth.<br>
Here's a link, but you can get this stuff at your local Target.<br><br><a href="http://www.organicwearmakeup.com/" target="_blank">http://www.organicwearmakeup.com/</a>

I've used the Physicians Formula Organic makeup and I liked it. The biggest downfall are their brushes. I hated them, they hurt to use. I am currently using Everyday Minerals and I like them quite a bit, and LOVE their brushes.

I don't use the brushes that come with Physician's Formula makeup. I have my own set up brushes that I use that I got somewhere else.

This is the company I've been ordering for years from. They have strict standards on what companies they will sell and do stick to it. I've been extremely pleased with them. Last summer I searched several hundred hours looking for the right products without any harmful chemicals. I also used the EWG (Environmental Work Group) cosmetics database which helped immensely. Anywho - here's the link to the co..<br><br><a href="http://allnaturalcosmetics.com" target="_blank">http://allnaturalcosmetics.com</a>

I bought some of this the other day and I love it. The only thing I don't like is that you can't carry the powder around in your purse becuase it can spill. But I love how it looks and it has not caused any irritation of my skin. I only paid like $8 becuase I found a coupon for 2 dollars off. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up">

What a timely thread bump! I lost some weight (yay!), but now the circles under my eyes seem darker. Maybe without all that fat, you can actually see the veins under the skin! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
I've never really worn makeup, so I'm at a loss. And that Cosmetics Database is scaring the bejeezus out of me! Hoping to glean some good info....<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/privateeyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="private eyes">

Oh my goodness. I am on a neverending quest for the perfect non-toxic make up and it is called 100% Pure. I LOVE this stuff. I ahev their eye makeup, corrector, and cheek tints. They are FABULOUS. Best of all, no minerals. I loved my Bare Minerals until I realized they used a bunch of junk. Then I switched to Signature Minerals - great natural mineral makeup. No fillers and gunk, but then the sky opened up, the sun was shining and my last attempt at googling non-toxic makeup before DS woke from his nap was successful. I found it. 100percentpure.com is the BEST makeup out there. I get comments ALL the time.

<span style="font-size:medium;">There are a few companies I've noticed being recommended lateley: 100percentpure, Every Day Minerals, Affordable Mineral Makeup, Alima Mineral Makeup, KT Naturals Mineral Makeup.<br><br>
What is the *most* natural? Which ingredients are recommended more than others?<br><br>
I'm looking to replace my makeup ASAP, and there are too many choices out here.<br><br>
Thank you.<br>

100% Pure is the most natural in my opinion. Minerals are natural in that they are found in the earth naturally, and many companies (Signature Minerals in my opinion is the best as far as mineral makeup goes - but they do have to add colors from minerals - iron oxides and such) use simply minerals and no added junk (like Bare minerals - they use bismuth oxychloride). 100% pure uses fruit, coffee, tea, and chocolate for tinting their products. They also use all kinds of oils and butters. All natural and completely safe. Try them out. And, they are kinda new so they have their products on QVC. Dont let that deter you, they are a great company and signed the compact for safe cosmetics. Try them - I hope you love what you get!! The cheek tints are great for lips, too!<br><br>
I just prefer to avoid minerals if I can. Titanium Dioxide has not been studied enough, IMO, and is cheaper to use than say Zinc oxide - which provides better sun protection. If the minerals are nano sized particles then they enter your body immediately. Just does not sit well with me...

I use this stuff and feel really good about it <a href="http://www.larenim.com/" target="_blank">http://www.larenim.com/</a><br><br>
I like that it is really all natural and contains no nano-size particles.

Oh yeah. They are good. Whole Foods in my area used to carry those products. And, they are made in the USA - if that is important to you. Good as far as mineral makeups go. I tried them a while ago, too, but didnt like the way they looked on my skin - couldnt find a good color.
