I am in the very beginning stages of trying to plan a non violent parenting class by Ruth Beaglehole in south central CA (between Bakersfield and Edwards AFB). This is her website: http://nonviolentparenting.org/

I recently heard her speak at a LLL conference and she was absolutely amazing! If anyone around this area is interested in this (if you live in the Bakersfield area or more south in the Antelope Valley) pm me for more info

Hi Julie! I was at the conference too! I didn't get to hear Ruth Beaglehole myself, but someone else I know was giving her high praise. I've barely begun to scratch the surface of NVC myself; have gone to one workshop (in Santa Barbara), have a rudimentary understanding of the concepts and techniques and philosophy. Have joined an nvc parenting group online, and an NVC announcements group for the LA area.

This was my first LLL conference. WOW

I was at the LLL Conference (hi, Ninette!!) and I did see that session. I did like it, but I have to be honest, I was confused about it and I dont know how it would work. I have recently tried a few of her techniques. Struggling with a 3yo who is sweet and smart and fun - but who doesnt respect what I ask of her and doesnt like to ever pick up her messes or come when called... maybe I should check out the parenting boards here at MDC!

Anyway, I will have to check out her site. It seems as if she doesnt believe in discipline at all. I understand her verbal techniques, but what if they just dont work and your kid doesnt respond to them?

I had so much fun at the conference, I wish there was one every weekend!

This was my first conference too and def won't be my last either!

Shannon, I kwym about being confused about her techniques. It's hard to explain to ppl too and the whole thing about not using praise is difficult to do. It makes so much sense when she talks about it, but putting the practice into reality seems daunting. That's why I want to do a workshop w/ her though... to understand it better.
