Ilana was 9#5oz 2 wks ago and then 9#4oz yesterday. She's always been small, but always gained her 4ozs a week she's needed. She's never been a long nurser and has never had a strong suck, but I can hear her swallowing etc. I was thinking of pumping after every feed (or every few hours if she goes longer), but then do I just offer it to her whenever? She won't nurse if she's not hungry generally. She's had a bottle before so I'm not worried about using bottles. I'm dairy/soy/egg free too and she has reflux. I told the dr (ours is on mat leave) we'd come back in a week and do a recheck. I was so proud that we'd barely used any formula w/ her so I hate the thought of 'having' to. Help!

I would:

- Offer nursing more often. Even if she gets get a little it will be calories.

- Block feeding. Feed from one side for several hours (or if she goes longer in between sessions maybe you would choose one side for 2-3 sessions). It will help her get more hindmilk.

- Add good fats to your diet. Avocados, olive oil, salmon (if you aren't opposed).

Adding formula isn't going to help, I hope your doc doesn't advise it. Also, just in case they mention it, adding cereal or other solids isn't going to help either, there are far fewer calories in solids than in bm.

is your dd on medication for her reflux. If she is not and is losing weight then try seeing if your dr can prescribe something for the reflux and see if that helps her. Don't let your dr talk you into giving your dd formula. My dr told me that she will only give Ds medication for his reflux if he is losing weight and/or spitting up brown.

Thank you all. She has been on reflux meds since 10days old, but I think we need a new kind. I'm not sure yet. I might call her GI tomorrow. I have pumped twice now and was able to give her an oz of bm in a bottle this morning when she was mad and wasn't nursing and it helped a lot! I have another oz in the fridge and need to pump again soon since she's napping. I think I need to work a little on supply b/c I think it might have gone down lately from not nursing enough, hopefully that will get her nursing more. She's been really mad at the slow letdowns the past few days.

DBZ, I was wheat free before and nothing really changed. I keep it in my head though b/c Evan was intolerant to everything I ate and went to rx formula at 1.
