I have a question that I hope someone can help me with.

My SIL (and brother) called today to tell me they were expecting their 1st child. She is 8 weeks pregnant and when I asked her how the morning sickness was (as I had it bad with all 3 of my children) she commented "I was only sick for about 4 days, 2 weeks ago but then it went away and I feel totally fine. Well, except for cramping that I have been having off and on".

Now, I had some minor cramping at about 4 weeks with my pregnancies but I always 'felt' pregnant, sick and all. Has anyone had these symptoms, or lack of, and has it led to a miscarriage? It seems I learned something about progesterone dropping off before a mc and that's when the feelings of morning sickness and breast tenderness went away. I should know this, but I just don't remember.

Of course I didn't say these things to either of them, but I just have this nagging feeling I am correct, I hope not.

Thanks for any help with this.

If it were me, I'd be panicking. That was how I found out I was loosing my first, I had bad morning sickness and breast tenderness, then one day they just went away
Cramping on top of that, doesnt' sound great, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Let us know what happens ok?

Cramping can mean a lot of stuff. When I had cramps it was because I had a minor kidney infection, but they did tell me to come in right away when it started happening.

Maybe you could tell her she ought to call her Dr in case she is having cramps. But I would try and not make them panic..

It is something to worry about.

Thank you.

Mostly I was concerned about her not feeling sick. She was glad as she said she was 'one of the lucky pregnant people who had a very short time of morning sickness' (4 days worth). But, ms to start and stop after only 4 days signaled a red flag for me.

Well, I guess time will tell. I sure hope she is just lucky with no pregnancy symptoms! I will post in a later week to let you all know.

Thanks again

I have had 4 pregnancies - 1 ended in miscarriage. I have only had morning sickness with 1 of them. With the baby I am carrying now, I had cramping and bleeding for over a month, but everything was fine. I didnt feel pregnant and I thought I was going to miscarry again. Sometimes I would feel a bit nauseas, but it was never enough to stop my daily activities, so often I wondered if I was imagining it.

Some cramping is normal in a pregnancy and if she isnt bleeding, everything really could be fine... Some people dont have the horrible morning sickness that you always hear about - thats okay too.

Let us know what happens!

If she contacts her doctor because of cramping and it is a pending miscarriage, can they do anything anyway?? I would probably not say anything because I don't think there is any preventative measures she is missing out on, it just might be setting them up for unneeded stress.

I hope she is blessed with an easy, healthy pregnancy!

I think she could be fine, actually.
I had what felt like pd symptoms very strongly for a week when I was expecting my pd and then they subsided the day after I found out I was pg. After that, I had ms for about 6 days around week 7 of my pg but it wasn't awful- I actually never threw up. That was it for me. Only 50% of people get ms, but it seems like you never hear about us :)
