Here we go, girls....

Ava was so cute today (I know, isn't that ALWAYS the case?)
She told me she needed to go potty, so I set her on the regular toilet. She peed but said she also had to poop. She then motioned for me to leave the room and shut the door. She wanted privacy!
I asked her every few minutes if she was done, and finally I just told her to call me when she was ready to be wiped...which she did. Amazing! I was worried she might fall in the toilet, but she did fine.

She does the same thing at night. We nurse in her bed and she either falls asleep, or points to her door when she's ready for me to leave. The girl knows her mind.

I'm going to go have some ice cream. It's so darn hot here in Atlanta!

Wow! That's pretty cool Dawn!

I'll be glad when we are done with teeth for a while. Abhi has been super cranky and has been crying in her sleep from teething pain.

One more week of work for me until maternity leave starts! Yay! My brain is in a total fog and I am so ready for a little downtime before the baby comes. Abhi is still going to go to the babysitter for 2 days a week, so I will have those 2 days all to myself. I haven't had that since before she was born!

That's awesome about Ava PT'lng! DS wants nothing to do with it - and he's so stubborn I don't want to push the issue - otherwise it'll be a battle.

He still isn't talking too much yet - but he understands us and knows a bunch of words. He signs a ton.

He is very strong-willed and I know I have a long 18 or so years ahead of me.

I can't wait for the teething to stop. The canine came in mostly on the top - just waiting for those darn bottoms so we can get some more sleep around here.

I don't know...I think having a big brother helped. She's been using the potty since March and just gets better and better. We have the occasional pee accident, but that's usually only if she is wearing big girl underwear. She can't pull them down by herself yet, and I think I might be missing her cues when that happens. If I leave her bare-bottomed, she just goes to the little potty and does her thing by herself!

Ds didn't train until 2 1/2 years old, so maybe it's a girl thing?

DH just took the kids to DS' golf "match." I got out of it because DS' open house at Montessori is today and I'm the school mom. Given what happened the last time I went to golf, I was fine with missing today!
The teeth are feeling OK except for one of them. I hope I don't lose it. It's the same one that I thought was moving when I was pg with Ava. The dentist said teeth shift when we're adults. As long as it doesn't shift right out of my mouth!
I probably won't know for several months. Ugh!

Hola Ladies..

Sophie's got 3 of the 4 canines in now..phew...her teething rash is going away rapidly..poor kid looked like she had a bad case of acne and nothing would help it at all, not even breastmilk. She is on a talking streak, herself..constantly saying new words. And talking in sentences now, though sometimes it's a bit garbled. I found her coming out of our room this morning and she said, "Oh Hi momma, I uh too!" which is I love you too..
she knows all her body parts, right down to her "BO!" which is her yoni, but I cannot convince her to call it that.
I think she's ready to try pottying now, because she is always bringing me herself when she goes now and complaining..we'll try this week once I get some therapies for Eli squared away.
I can't get her to eat much lately..guessing that is the teeth..I'm getting a little tired of constant nursing..last two days have been hard as I threw my back out (probably overload of stress right now) and am having trouble with mobility.
Anyway, off to the races again..yet another birthday party..we've had them every week since early july! I think I'll remember a camera this time..she's got such a pretty dress on and she picked it out of her closet herself

Oh, my poor, miserable DD! We're in teething hades here.
They must be close to breaking through because even tylenol isn't helping now and she's a little furnace to the touch. Thank goodness for motrin and hylands. The combo does wonders.

Do any of you have ear thermometers for your kids yet? If so, where did you get one? I *really* don't feel right about continuing to take Liv's temperature rectally. Are our kids big enough for the ear ones yet?

I just ordered a little pair of black slip-on Vans for Livi that have hot pink hippos on them. She's going to love them.
And then I saw that they had some in my size, so I had to go for matchies.

Don't get too freaked out about the temperature. It is normal for it to go up during teething (also it is typically higher in the afternoon). The ear thermometers work OK, but they can be off by 1 or more degrees...so, again, don't get too freaked out by it. The good news is that their little bodies know exactly what temp they need to be to fight off any bacteria or virus. Actually, the immunoglobulins double for every degree the temp goes up from normal. Fever is the body's natural way of fighting off infections. I'll get off my soap box now...

School starts tomorrow. I'll miss DS...

We've used the thermometer in the armpit since Rowan was a babe, though it's been months since we used it for anything.

Can't believe school is starting. I hope the weather will let up soon. We went to Topeka again just to hang out at the play area at the mall.
: It's air conditioned, and Ro likes to see the other kids, though she is just figuring out how to interact with them.

Rowan just sits on the potty every now and then. She hasn't pooped in it yet, though she did poop in her kiddie pool the other day. I haven't really pushed it, mostly I set her on it if she asks.

She's done a million super cute things lately but I'm too tired to write them.

Abhi just blows me away sometimes. This morning while driving to the babysitters, she took her shoes off. When we got to the babysitters, I was trying to put her shoes back on before we got out of the car. She was fighting me and I said "You have to have your shoes on because the ground is hot!" So she let me put her shoes on and I got her out of the car. As soon as her feet hit the ground, she bent down and put her hands on the ground and said "It's cold!"
Oh boy, I am going to have my hands full with her! She's not going to let me get away with anything!

lol..you weren't..I just didn't get notified again..
Busy here dealing with having to go see my mother, who is dying from cancer and only has a few months left. (she stopped all the chemo).

Just a crazy life..My daughter is showing a bit of OCD tendencies and needs to have her hands cleaned anytime she thinks there is a mess on them..including after every bite of food..hopefully this too shall pass..

Sorry you are having to deal with this! We are going through a similar situation with my grandmother right now, so I know how hard it is.

So we finally have a new word... "Boom boom!" for thunder, coming from the Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? book. It sounds more like "Bum bum!", but I'll take what I can get! She does the rain sign first, then "bum bum!"

Over the weekend we went to the local aviary and it was lovely. Not very many people visit it, so it wasn't too crowded and she could run around like a wild child without any worries. She liked seeing the birds, and Dave and I loved it, too. It was really hot (around 98) but there are lots of trees so it was shady, with a slight breeze. We finished the afternoon with frozen strawberry bars (good for teething) and cold lemonade.

I'm trying to do some fun, special things for her this week. Yesterday morning on our way home from my work, we stopped at the park to play for as long as she wanted. Then today we stopped at a local bakery and got cupcakes. She also got to play in the flour and cornmeal this morning while I made pancakes.

Livi got her leg stuck in the crib bars today after her nap. I had to grease her up with Burt's Bees apricot oil to get it out. Does this mean it is time to switch to a regular bed? I'm dreading the change, and trying to hold off as long as possible. What do y'all think?

Hmmm...now that Sophie is sleeping better on her own, maybe it's time to start transitioning her..she actually goes to sleep w/o nursing now..amazing as that is, she still seems to need someone in bed with her so I'm wary. I could really use more space, though..my back is suffering from 2 inches of bed, even with my lovely tempurpedic mattress.

Otherwise..anyone else having a major language explosion? Sophie is speaking so much more this week, and adding sentences like crazy. She started signing More and Nurse and all done, too
I am showing her signs for help and go now, since we're doing this with Eli's speech therapy.

I think rowan is having a growth spurt. She's nursing same as usual but ate about twice as much today. Every time I turned around she was asking for some potato, some rice, some yogurt. I was eating potato salad and said, "do you like potato salad?" She took a bite and said "ike pato aya." Her first three word sentence.

Meg, Rowan is pretty picky about her hands too. If she's eating a particuarly messy food she will sometimes insist on having her hands cleaned between bites. "Messy" and "dirty" are solidly in her vocabulary! Where do they get it? We are conscientious about hand cleaning because she had elevated lead, but otherwise we are so not clean freaks. She might shape us up.
