Hi, all! We're doing well...except for the teething. Yuck! Poor baby has had a few tough days. She's normally so laid back that I'm not used to seeing her fussy. Even with that bottom little sticking out, she's just so adorable!

She's enjoying eating some baby food. We've tried peas, sweet potato, egg yolk, banana, apple, and pear. She likes it all so far. BF is still going great, too.

All in all, there's not much new going on here, but I wanted to get us started for June...

Hi! We started solids last month - but stopped after about a week... he was much happier with mommy milk. Once and a while I give him something to practice with - especially while I'm fixing supper, but so far his diet is pretty much mommy milk. He's nursing a lot more lately because of teething, but he hasn't cut anything yet. Poor guy I his gums are sooo red.

Someone once told me about a book but she didn't know the name or author. It was about how when babies are about to hit a big developmental milestone they get extra cranky for a few days. It had to do with neurology. Does anyone know what book I'm talking about?

The funny thing is, everyone I tell this to says they're still like that as adults! So whenever Rowan is cranky but I can't figure out why, I tell myself, oh, maybe tomorrow she'll start talking or crawling or something.

The book is:

The Wonder Weeks: How to Turn Your Baby's 8 Great Fussy Phases into Magical Leaps Forward by Hetty Vanderijt, Frans Plooij

I have the book, and it has been pretty helpful. Whenever Abhi seems unusually fussy, I look up her age in the book, and it usually corresponds with a developmental period described in the book. Hope that help!

Welcome bartleby! Congrats on the adoption of your little girl! Check out that book, it may explain her fussiness.

We are doing pretty good here. Abhi just turned 6 months on the 28th (we seem to be so much behind everyone else!). No teeth here yet and we have tried a few solids (sweet potato, applesauce, peaches, rice cereal), but she still spits out more than she swallows. I am not pushing it, just trying a little here and there.

She did get pretty constipated over Memorial Day weekend, and I didn't know how to help her! I was at my parents house, and a storm had blown through the one night and knocked out their internet, so I couldn't post!
: What did we ever do before the internet?? :LOL Anyway, she seems to be over it now, but any suggestions if it happens again? All the remedies I have seen involve feeding them something (peaches, peas, prunes), but I don't think she would eat enough of that to make a difference!

Hi all! I don't know why, but I have never posted on this thread. My DS will be 7 months on the seventh.

He is usually all smiles, but he has been a little sad over the past week. He was sick for the first time ever. He had a fever and a cough and still has a stuffy nose. I think he may also be getting ready to cut a tooth.

He has no teeth yet. He is a very good slitherer though. He is just about to crawl on all fours, though he can cruise across the floor pretty quick now... especially if the cat is in sight. :LOL

He really doesn't eat much yet. I thought he would be so into eating, but nope. I'll just keep offering here and there I guess.

It will be fun to read about all you dc!

Oh, it is June, isn't it? Spacey me! I posted for the first time in this thread, but in the May one. Duh.

Anyway, thanks for the book recommendation. I am betting my daughter's fussiness is developmental--she is so on the verge of crawling, I expect her to just do it any day now. Maybe that's the cause of her cranky mood.

As for other fun things, she is having fun with solids, and took to using a spoon like she's done it all her life. Of course, she loves to chew on it slightly more than eat off of it, but that's all right. Some of the food--apples, pears, plums--actually goes down the hatch every once in a while!

She has had her two bottom teeth since 5.5 months, so I am assuming she might be working on her two top ones now (?). At any rate, she is wanting to bite a lot lately, sometimes (ouch) me! (We're bottlefeeding, so I'm mostly spared breast-biting, though interestingly she seems to like biting my clothed breast anyway. And my arm when she's really tired.)

Some of her favorite toys these days: plastic measuring spoons and cups, a small heavy-paper shopping bag from J. Crew with toys stuffed inside of it, and the cheapy plastic rotary telephone by Fisher Price that her grandparents (my folks) gave her. She can sit and dial that thing for minutes on end! (Why do grandparents insist on the toys that make noise? And of course, those are the ones she loves the most!)

Just signing on. Bronwynn's been pretty fussy too, but I don't think she's on the verge of anything. We're not too close to crawling, though she wishes she was. I can't tell that she's about to cut any teeth. However, I did finish school two weeks ago and she went from being in daycare full-time, to being home full-time and if that weren't enough, we had company for the entire first week. So, it's probably just all the change. At any rate, I'm loving being home with my babes, but it sure is a lot of work!

We started solids today.... avocado. Anya was definitely interested, but I'm not sure if she actually enjoyed it or not.
She has been grumpy lately, getting her second tooth.
I'm a bit worried, actually, it occurred to me today that by this age my son was babbling a lot, waking up each morning chatting away with 2 syllable made up sounds....... but Anya does not do this. Should I be worried about this yet? She was born on 21st november so only just past 6 months.

Annabelle, I wouldn't worry. I'm the mommy to the Princess of Underachievement here (she's happy to just lie there as we cater to her cuteness), Her Royal Blob. We just like to think of her as "special" and leave it at that :LOL . No teeth here, no surprise but her gummy smile is awfully cute!

I'm trying to not worry but I'm starting to worry about everything these days. I had my mom watch her as I sold my soap at this big festival here on the weekend. She took her for a two hour walk and I was trying to smile at customers but in my head I was screaming "where's my baby!!?!!!).

This worry has been manifesting itself in other areas (I shouldn't have had that half bottle of beer she seems to be making weird noise! My dh's lungs hurt - he has Hanta virus!) but i think the Universe is testing me.

I have to let go and trust. The birth process all over again.

Where is jecaly? (She was so nice last month when Livi got her first "bump".)
I need some hugs--Livi just fell off the bed!

I set her down to measure her foot for some robeez, and as I turned to look at the computer to check the measurement I thought, "I think I might have set her too close to the edge....I should pick her up first." I was in the middle of turning back when I heard the THUMP!!! I feel so horrible! She's got this pink spot on her left cheekbone, and I'm afraid her eye is going to turn colors (I really, really, really, hope not, or I won't be able to show my face in church on Sunday!). That edge of her face is a little bit puffy, but she won't let me hold anything cool on it.

She cried right away and I nursed her, but she kept unlatching to cry some more, then she would latch again. I feel so dumb!!!!! I know better.

I called DH at work, and after making sure we were both going to be okay, he said, "Well, now we're even. I dropped a handle of the moses basket and she rolled/fell out when she was just a week old, and you let her fall off the bed. I knew it would even up eventually!"

aw chelsea! here i am
. i'm sorry livi fell--i don't know what i said last time, but i sure do know the feeling. glad there are no bumps, and i hope you feel better soon; i'll bet she has long forgotten! isn't that crying-nursing-crying thing hard, though? it's like they're being comforted, re-remembering, being comforted over and over.

hazel's been falling over less and less while sitting, now, but i still keep a pillow behind her just in case. i knocked her over with surprise the other day--making that, hm how to describe the noise. a sharp intake of breath, i guess? she had a wipe in her mouth and i thought it was a poopy one, and i made such an oh-no noise that she looked startled and fell over backward. so funny. but i'm keeping that pillow there for awhile, for sure.

i thought for *sure* she was teething, and that i felt a sharp place on her upper gums (d felt it too), but now both are gone. we both have a little cold, though, so she's a little grumpier than usual. our sleep routine is everchanging--at the moment we start out with her in our bed (i think she likes the mattress), us on the guest futon, then when she first wakes i go in to her and sleep on the bed with her, d stays on the futon and gets her from when she wakes at 6ish until he leaves for work. whee. she's still waking up a lot, though, and i'm feeling like i want to transition her to her own bed in the next few months--has anyone had any luck doing this? any tips? anyone have any experience with natural crib mattresses?

she shows no interest in crawling or rolling, still (birthday 11.23.2004). sitting is king!

Jennifer, no help with the transitioning, sorry there. It's great that she sitting so well now though!

Chelsea, don't feel bad. She's probably long forgotten about it. Kids are very resiliant. Bronwynn has fell a few times already. When they already have a big sister/brother, they get a little more beat up than if they are the first.

Well, a few days ago I said that Bronwynn was extra fussy, but I didn't think it was teeth. I did get some of the Hyland's teething gel and that seemed to help a little. Still, I wasn't convinced. But, low and behold, we have teeth! They aren't completely though, but I think by tomorrow morning the two bottom ones will be completely broke through the skin. No wonder the poor little dear has been so fussy. Two teeth on top of all this company and transition. And she's decided she ready to start working on the crawling bit. She can move about an inch forward now! I know that's not much, but we're getting there.
Still very happily cosleeping, she's my little cuddle-bug and I'm all for the night nursing. AF returned at 7 months pp w/my first, but no signs yet this time. My first one started sleeping through the night at 2 months when she found her thumb. Anyway, better be off for tonight.

Hey everyone..sorry I"ve been so absent..MDC stopped sending me emails so I lost track..life was a bit busy with family and such.

Well, lets see..Sophie is crawling in a particularly sophie style..basically, up on all fours she rocks back and forth and then launches forward or backward..through this and rolling, she's all over the room. She's very driven. She has been sitting up well since 5.5 months.
Here's a pic of crawling happy girl:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17...y302005008.jpg

She's been eating since about 5.5 months too, though I've limited her to one teaspoon at the dinner meal when we're all together. She hasn't refused anything yet, and particularly loves sweet potatos (her first food) and oatmeal. She tried meat mixed in with carrots this week and was OK with that too. I'm loving a baby that eats!! Yesterday she had her first wheat free teething biscuit (I think it's too early to introduce wheat so we got barley ones)..and boy that was fun

Not much else to report. She had her 6 month checkup and was 75th for height and 60th for weight...which surprised the heck out of me as most of my children are quite small. so about 2 weeks ago she was 16 lbs 6oz and 27" tall. Don't know what she is now. To give some perspective, Eli was 17lbs 4 oz at 1 year!

Hugs to you all..I hope MDC updates me now...

That is what Livi does, too! She is so close to real crawling. She's also trying to pull herself up to standing, but isn't quite managing yet.

Livi is back on solids, and now wants them twice a day. She did a nursing strike on Sunday - scared the crap out of me. She didn't nurse all day until around 3 pm, when she usually has nursed about 4 times by then. I think it is due to either teething or the fact that DH was out of town.

Hey everyone!

Xander has a tooth! It feels like I just posted that he's so far behind with no teeth and no solids, and now he's got a tooth! I'm so torn... his face has been blotchy and rashy and he's been rubbing his eyes for going on 2 weeks now and I am working on giving up my cats, but I have a feeling that something else is causing it also. I've broken down and given him some benedryl because I can't seem to figure out what it could be that I'm eating, and I felt so bad for him that I had to give him some relief. The rash isn't anywhere else on his body this time but his face.

I didn't want to start solids until I figured out what this is from, but he was getting downright demanding at supper time, so I let him have some pears. He
s them.

He is all over my house now also... not up on his hands and knees, but commando crawling - pulling with one arm and pushing with his opposite foot. Very funny, but also effective.

Jennifer, I have no ideas on transitioning her, except for keeping her in your room for a bit. You could sidecar the crib for a while, and move it over?

s to all

Monica, that must have been scary!! I have no fear of that right now, as my Livi is nursing every 1-2 hours round the clock. I can't decide if it's a growth spurt or just a separation anxiety thing. I also think she nurses just because I'm there sometimes, KWIM? I'm fine with it most of the time, but sometimes it gets really frustrating.

We are leaving for vacation on Friday! A whole week in northern MN with no phones, no computers, no TV, and a cabin by the lake. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
I'm going to have so much to read when I get back--don't let those babes go learning a zillion new things while I'm gone now! :LOL

It is so hot here this week--95 degrees and humid today. Livi was so crabby last night we had to turn on the A/C for her to go to sleep. She's not used to warm weather, poor girl.

Annette--I was going to say just what Meg did, that it could be tooth-related. Especially if it's on the chin.

Jennifer--thanks for the kind words.
I've started trying to transition Livi to the crib for nap times, and so far it's going okay. I read the No Cry Sleep Solution, and I've been using a lot of suggestions from that. My problem is that it means less sleep for me right now, so it's hard to get the motivation, KWIM? DH is sleeping with Livi at the moment, and I'm supposed to be sleeping in the guest bed (hoping for maybe an hour by myself before she needs to nurse), so I'm going to go to bed!!

It's mostly around his eyes, actually. And his entire face, from forehead to chin is covered in little bumps. He's constantly rubbing his eyes, and has had some yellowish goop come out of them. Benedryl does help. I've given it to him the last 2 nights and he's slept from 9pm-4am straight through, which is a switch from waking every 2hours. I don't think it's because the benedryl causes drowsiness, either, cause he went down at 7, and woke 3 times crying and all puffy, so I gave him the benedryl because it's obvious something is really irritating him.

He woke up less blotchy this morning, but still looks tired and red and irritated. He was covered head to toe for a week about a month ago, which I think was caused by whole grains or nuts in my diet - so I eliminated both (I'd just recently added them). I also stopped drinking milk for good measure, but still eat cheese and yogurt. That rash cleared up completly in a week for about a week, but replaced itself with this. It looks different than the first one. And there's been very little spit up (which I think is because I cut the milk out). There wasn't a lot to begin with, but enough for me to want to try fix it for him. My first son reacted with barfing when I drank milk.

My best guess right now is the cats are causing the eye issues (and I'm giving them up, just trying to find the right thing to do with them), and the bumps on his face are from teething - does you really think that teething could be causing that? It's all over his face. It could also be a heat rash, but it would be all over his body, no?

My brain is spinning, and any thoughts/input would be appreciated. My doctor has just shrugged and said benedryl. My public health nurse (I'm still seeing one because I'm not entirely myself yet from ppd) pushed benedryl and told me to stop over analyzing things
: . She under no circumstances wants me to try the Sears elimination diet. I'm tempted to anyhow, but I can see why she's concerned, I've had eating disorder issues in the past and with borderline ppd, it scares me also. I want to stop the whatever it is that's bothering him... not just drugging him, but it seems so complicated.
