Hi There,<br><br>
I wanted to get some input on kid friendly hiking locations in the NoVa area. I'd like to start a really informal hiking club once a week when school is out in June. We live in Leesburg and are probably willing to travel up to 45 minutes or so. Thanks for any ideas!

We've done the 5 mile loop at Burke Lake Park a bunch - nice and wide and not too many hills. Only thing is - when you are 2.5 miles out you have no out so I often bring a jogging stroller in case my 2.5 year old gives out (or the Kozy).<br><br>

We like to hike, and would love to join a group if our ever changing schedule allows.<br><br>
Here in Leesburg:<br>
Red Rock Overlook Regional Park<br>
Balls Bluff Regional Park<br>
(can hike down to Potomac from both - both fit in well with a trip to target or costco too)<br><br>
For even easier river access there's a new county park off Riverpoint in Lansdowne. The name escapes me right now.<br><br>
If you want to pick up litter/ recycling as you go try Keep Loudoun Beautiful Park off route 7, just east of town. Also good access to Goose Creek from there if you like to look for crayfish etc.<br><br>
and beyond:<br>
Check out the trails near Bears Den Inn in Bluemont.<br><br>
Ditto the earlier rec for Burke Lake.<br><br>
Also, Great Falls National Park is good. We like the nature center & LOVE the book store.<br><br>
There's another regional park out past Middleburg that the kids liked too. Name escapes me now... but you can google it based on the location. Big sky or sky meadows maybe.<br><br>

Thanks for all of the awesome ideas! I think I will compile a list and maybe try to make a loose schedule. I'll talk to some IRL friends who may be intersted and then perhaps I will bump this thread a few times in the next month or so to keep the ideas coming.<br><br>
We lived in FL before this and had an awesome weekly beach group. My kiddos miss it so much and I thought maybe a weekly hike might be something fun for them. Thanks, again, everyone!

we love the C&O Canal, and there are a million put-on options from Leesburg. Harper's Ferry might be closest. and of course the AT comes through Harper's Ferry as well.
