**The official thread of the Nov. DDC homebirthers!
**

I'm jealous of all the mamas finding out their babies sex, etc! (Congratulations to you all, though!!!!
) So who else hasn't seen the babe via u/s, hasn't heard a heartbeat via doppler (or at all)... who else's first confirmation that there is really a baby in there was from fetal movement? Did/ was it driving you crazy, too? This is exaclty what I want, its just so strange. I'd had two u/s with dd by this point. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and haven't heard a heartbeat yet... with dd, heard it at 9 weeks.

So, who else is in the same boat, and how do you feel about it? And do you have a strong feeling about sex, even though you know you can't find out?

Hi Amanda:

I did hear the heartbeat at the homebirth m/w office, and I debated like crazy on doing an u/s this time..but the fact that I had a spina bifida baby about 10 yrs ago that I miscarried and that I'm over 35 convinced me...

However..I don't plan to find out the sex and it's making me a little crazy...and I am doing a homebirth, I hope! I'm only 17.5 wks pregnant and I do feel movements or I would be stressing a lot. So it's not quite the same as your situation, I know, but close enough. I do feel strongly that this baby is a girl thanks to all the sickness I had, though.

I kind of wish I had the courage not to do doppler and u/s though. Way to Go!

I am there with you momma! I *just* heard the baby's heartbeat at my last midwives appt with the fetoscope and it was a sweet sound I can tell you! The baby is starting to move around on a daily basis by this time so it is a bit more reassuring that way.

I am not driving myself too crazy about the sex thing though. Really I would be ecstatic with either sex (but those girly outfits call to me but I am too cheap to buy them since I think it is another boy LOL!)

I am planning a HBAC as long as the MWs don't risk me out (which could happen if the baby appears large...DS was 9 pounds 11 ounces). So far this pregnancy I have only gained 1.5 pounds though which is WAY less than last time...and I am eating much less crap than last time so who knows.

Its been an interesting experience this time. I did decline the "standard" us with DS but I had us at around 7 weeks for dating purposes (hadn't had my cycle in three months before I got pregnant) and at 41.5 weeks to check for fluid levels. I had the doppler at nearly every appointment though so that has definitely been different this time around. I think I liked waiting though. It feels more natural to wait and trust that everything is going well...though I can see how those mommas who have experienced or who fear loss may need the reassurance of those heart sounds.

At least you know that you aren't alone LOL!

Meg: Hi! Haven't *seen* you in a while! If I were in your position, I totally would have had an u/s. Worrying about something like spina bifida with a history of it would drive me insane.

I have no reason to be worried about this baby, so that makes it easier. No miscarriages, completely uneventful pg and labor, etc. The last time I went to the mw, I was 18 1/2 weeks. The baby was moving around so much. Everytime she'd poke it with the fetascope, it'd move out of the way. She managed to hear the heartbeat, though, but we didn't.

As for sex, I think its a boy. I have to stop myself from saying "he" instead of "it" or "the baby". But that may be wishful thinking as we only have a boy name picked out and I have lots if gn clothes that really border on boyish!

Steph: Glad to find someone else doing thing as me!

Hi Amanda:

Well..if it is a boy, I can help!! Of course...if mine is also a boy...that negates that
We'll know in a few months. I have been in CA seeing my oldest graduate high school. I feel bloody ancient...anyway..hoping to get out more but the heat and storms are keeping me in so far!! We're off to a pagan gather campout this weekend but will be back Sunday..

i'm on this bus, too! we got an ultrasound in the er at 8 weeks because of some bleeding and saw the heartbeat then--i wouldn't undo that, because i was so sure we were losing the baby and *so* shocked and relieved to see the pulsating little bean...but in general, i'm opposed for myself to getting an ultrasound unless i feel like there's a medical reason for it. so, no finding out the gender ahead of time for us.

but also...i have to say that i'm really enjoying not knowing. especially now, that the baby's moving around a lot--i have a sense of a presence, a being, but not "a boy" or "a girl". i really like that. and after it's born, there won't ever be an opportunity to see him/her that way again (okay, yeah, pronouns are a big pain). when i think about it, i do feel like it might be a boy, and d had a dream that it was a boy, so...maybe it is! but i don't think of it in those terms most of the time.

as for the heartbeat--the rolling and kicking are definitely positive, irrefutable signs to me that there is someone alive in there. they've even become somewhat predictable: when d lays his hand on my belly, or when i go still after moving around a lot. so neat. at our next midwife appointment (21 weeks) in a week and a half or so, she'll try with the fetoscope, and if she finds it--great. but if she doesn't, i'll still know that the baby's alive!

Hello Ladies!

I'm planning on a homebirth, but I've had some medical stuff done. This is my first pg, so I thought a combo of the two would be the best for me. I hope that with my next pregnancy I can have it hands-off and more natural.

My m/w uses a doppler at every apt, so I've heard the hb since 10 weeks. She also checks my urine at each apt. I had the standard blood work done in the beginning. I had an u/s at 18 weeks and found out my sweet baby is a girl, and perfectly healthy in every way. That will be the last of the medical involvement, other than another set of blood work near the end to check all of my levels. I'm declining all of the other tests, and want a hands-off delivery. (No water breaking, no membrane stripping, etc.)

Is there a homebirth thread for November babies? I'd like to become more actively involved in this little community. I post on baby center's birth club, but it seems I am the only natural mamma out there, and most definitely the only one planning a homebirth. I feel I'd be more in my element here.

Best to you all, and wishing you wonderful pregnancies!

okay, so at least ONE november mama is having a girl! i was starting to think there was something about february that made everybody have boys, heh.

i like your idea, monica--why not make this the homebirth november thread? i actually already have a birth kit, because my midwife had one that someone ended up not needing, but that's about all the preparation we've done for the birth. we're about to start remodeling our kitchen, so i don't think i'll be able to see this as the birth zone until after that's done, heh. nesting will be serious around here come october, i'll bet!

how about you guys?

If this can be the homebirth thread, want me to change the title?

No birth kit, yet. But I'm really close to paying off the midwife!

Hello!

We're planning a homebirth too. This is our second baby, due on Thanksgiving.

So far, so good! I've heard the heartbeat and had an ultrasound. All looks good. We did find out the sex...it's a boy!

I'm way excited to do this naturally and at home. It will be such a different experience than my first hospital birth.

Yea for a November Homebirth thread!!

Speaking of wet camping trips, we tried to go for a hike yesterday in the Uintas. It was sunny and about 76 deg. at the house before we left, so I was in a tanktop and shorts. We live in Park City, so we are already at a high elev. and assumed the weather would be nice further up. NOT! It was down to 49 deg. and pouring. We were so stupid we didn't even bring jackets or anything. Oh well, at least it was a pretty drive!

I haven't been doing nesting yet because we're moving. Once we're in the new house, I'll get started with baby's room.
My midwife is almost paid in full, too. I'll be done with payments on Aug. 5th. I haven't ordered my birth kit yet, but probably will in the next month or so. (For the pp who asked about birth kits, I would ask your midwife if you need to order one, or if she is providing it, or what.)

Has anyone started ordering their dipes yet? I am so lost as to what kind to get! If anyone has any pointers, I'd appreciate it!

Love & Light!

i'm planning a HB too! I'm very excited since my fist was an emergency C section. I would like to paint the living's ceiling, I would like to re-do (i don't know the word in English for 'tapizar') the coach, I would like to change ds's huge qeen bed for a kid bed so to make space for another one, etc, etc
If i'm able to accomplish with a third part of that I'll be pretty happy

By the way, my due date is November 25, so I'm just 18 weeks and 4 days. I had an u/s last week but we couldn't see the sex, so i guess I will not know till the end.

We've always ordered our birth kit via our midwives. At the 30ish week they give us a list of things to have on hand by a certain date and we order the birth kit--I was overwhelmed by the prep work involved with my last birth (we moved on a Friday and dd2 was born on Tuesday--there was a lot going on!), but it was well worth it.

tapizar = reupholster? putting new fabric on the couch?

i definitely hope to have a HB for #2, but i want to see how #1 goes with my blood pressure issues - OB+doula is our choice for this one. good for you all for going for a HB!

Well I still have some of the homebirthing supplies from my last homebirth that wasn't (induced at 40 weeks and 16 days...ended in c-section) still wrapped in plastic sitting under my DS' bed LOL so I won't have that much stuff to buy to prepare this time.

Just had my second adjustment at the chiropractor's today and I must say that I am really feeling better after going. DS was posterior so I am doing chiropractic to hopefully avoid some of the issues that I had with DS.

I have had this pain right at my tailbone since DS was born and it was gone after the first time that I was adjusted. It seems to be even better today LOL.

I just got laid off unexpectedly last week and DS is scheduled for lay off August 6th so I talked to the chiro about the fact that we cannot afford 2 chiro appts a week and would one be good enough...they are going to arrange a special fee schedule so that I get the required appts because she wants to make sure that I get the full benefit...sniff I was SOOOO touched!

Ive missed this thread!

We are planning a HB with this baby, our second and another boy! Right around Thanksgiving time. Very very excited to be doing this in the comfort of our own home!

We don't need a whole birth kit. Just a few little supplies. DH is a 4th year OB resident, so he is just going to swipe most of those things from the hospital

I think I'm going to wait till around 30 weeks to order my birth kit. It isn't like I'll need it before then, since if I were to go into labor right now I'd obviously end up in the hospital. 21 weeks and counting! I can't wait to meet this little girl!
