OK, I just really dont get it. DS has finally figured out this whole self-feeding thing and so is now munching down on all sorts of stuff... and so now I'm getting "time to get some baby food!" comments <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: Its like WTF! Since he cab feed himself I should start feeding him mush??? I just really don't get it! has anyone else ever gotten similar comments at this point? ever figured out WHY?? I mean gerber obviously has a wonderful brainwashing scheme but gees...

My dad, clueless not thoughtless, asked "When does he start eating baby food?" when DS was about 9 months. I told him DS had started self feeding real food at 7 months and that we would not be feeding him baby food. He was surprised and said "I didn't know you could skip baby food". That's the extent of it for us, but indeed the marketing works, it just gets into people's brains.

They now market <b>toddler food</b>. Like, wtf?<br><br>
It enrages me. My eyeballs spin in their sockets. Like the whole "now, don't feed your dog people food!" mantra. Oh barf. Heaven forbid I give my dog hamburger and not horse hooves and soy and wheat and chemicals dried and molded into little bone shapes.<br><br><br>
Anywho, here are the "toddler foods"<br><br><br><a href="http://www.heinzbaby.com/english/myself/toddler_foods.html" target="_blank">http://www.heinzbaby.com/english/mys...ler_foods.html</a>

I've never bought or mashed special food for my babies. They like my food <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> In fact, last week my year old baby was demanding bite after bite after bite of some jambalaya that was too spicy for my 10 year old <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

i guess i just expect ppl to say things like that. i know that now many people do things the way that i do...so unless someone is nasty about the things they say i just tell ppl how we do it if they ask and expect them to be surprised.

I guess it just boggles me most, because hes actually eating regular food. Prior (when he was just bfing), nobody said a word about 'baby food' - hell my family hardly even asked when we'd start solids... but its *NOW* when hes eating darn near everything we are, that they decide he should eat unflavorful mush... I just really don't get it..
