Abortion is a different process, admittedly one that could have similar causes of death for the mothers, but not necessarily and the author of the article said nothing to make it clear that these were related issues. The paragraph makes no sense in the article as written. If they had even put in the word "also" it might flow better. Right after the lines about abortion they switch to a discussion on prenatal education. The entire rest of the article is on a different topic, that's why the lines on deaths from abortions jarred me, I was reading through and they jump to a new topic for like 3 sentences then jump back. I don't care if it could be made to be relevant, it wasn't.
Actually, come to think of it, the switch to talking about what had been done in Mozambique was also a bit sudden, although there I could tell that they were saying what might be done in the future in Zambia.
