Facebook event page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=245764152117193#!/event.php?eid=245764152117193
Saturday, July 9th, 10:00 am - 12:00pm
Metropolitan Police Headquarters
300 Indiana Avenue, NW
Washington, DC
We will be gathering to show support for the breastfeeding policeofficers of the Metropolitan Police Department and to raise awarenessof the Department's lack of accommodation for them.
A recentpolicy change has forced lactating officers out of desk jobs and backon to the streets. They are being required to wear bulletproof vestswhich can be quite painful and restrictive, and can cause clogged milkducts. The only other op...tionfor nursing mothers is to take leave without pay (At least one officerhas chosen this route rather than give up breastfeeding her infantson). For the officers who choose to stay on duty, lactation rooms theymust use are unsanitary, and some don't even have locking doors orchairs.
So please join us, whether you are breastfeeding or not, whether you are a mother or not. And please write or email the Chiefand the Mayor and tell them this is an unacceptable way to treatbreastfeeding mothers.
