Has anyone started thinking about how you want to decorate the baby's room? I need a neutral design, since we aren't finding out the gender. There are so many cute themes! How do I choose?

I really, really, REALLY love this one but it's sold out everywhere.

Oh man...talk about bad timing. This was DS's nursery set and he never slept in his crib once. The entire set was practically new, even though we've had it since he was born. I JUST sold the entire collection (9 pieces) this weekend in a consignment sale for $40.
If I had known I would have been happy to sell it to you instead. Sorry mama.
It really is a beautiful bedding collection. Maybe you can try craigslist or ebay?

We didn't decorate a nursery when DD was born since we only had one bedroom, but when we moved and she got her own room, we did a butterfly theme. If you don't get too cutsey on the butterflies, that could be pretty neutral. Or, you could do a whole collection of garden bugs: butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies, ants, stick insects, etc.

My sister did her nursery in contemporary masters, with bright prints from Matisse, Kandinsky, Picasso, etc. All the bedding and draperies were mix-and-match bright colors.

Other gender-neutral themes I've seen: moon and stars, Noah's ark, baby animals, classic book themes (Winnie the Pooh/Hundred-Acre Wood, Wind in the Willows, Charlotte's Web, Paddington Bear, Velveteen Rabbit, Cat in the Hat, etc.)

This baby isn't going to have a bedroom, since our house is a clown car. Dd's room, which I meant to be gender neutral, is simply painted light yellow. My favorite theme of all is space--planets, stars, moons, rocketships--which is gender neutral as far as I am concerned!

none of my kids have ever had a nursery! they move into their own rooms at about 2 years old, so we do it up then.
i don't do themes, after that either. too easy to get sick of! lol

kayleigh has had this pottery barn quilt set since she was two (although on a full size bed) - http://i20.ebayimg.com/08/i/001/21/79/697b_1.JPG

and ethan's had this one since he was two also - http://i15.ebayimg.com/02/i/001/29/57/5f73_1.JPG

they hold up amazingly well, are aren't too "theme-y" that you get nored of them quick.

i made norah a quilt/sheet set from sandi henderson's ginger blossom line that she'll use in the toddler bed when we move her soon. she'll still be in our room, though, until spring.

: I agree w/ Jenn about the 2 yo room.

I wish I hadn't made the fuss about "doing" a nursery, because she was never in there even one night!

Same here. In hindsight, I wish I had used the money we spent on a crib and nursery decor for cloth diapers or other stuff instead. The crib was just a really expensive laundry, stuffed animal holder. The bedding was cute, but for a room that we only used for diaper changes we could have done without. Oh well, you live you learn. This time around we aren't doing a crib or nursery. But I DO understand the lure of all that cute baby bedding and decor. I practically drool over the Pottery Barn Babies catalog cause everything is so darn pretty.

our non-nursery lifestyle was born out of necessity. when dd1 was born, we lived in a 1br appt. when we moved when she was 3mo old, we moved into a 2br, but never moved her out of our bed. so when #2, and #3 came along, we knew it wasn't necessary. but we probably would have made #1 a big fancy room (and never used it, lol!) if we had the room at the time.

hahahha...nursery. We're not even getting a crib--instead we'll just buy another twin mattress for laying down to nurse (yaknow, when we want our bed to ourselves
), and a happy hangup
: google these--they're so cool!!

the only real question is whether or not this babe is a girl (we think it is). if it's a boy, all we have to do is get another mattress and baby can share w/our oldest. if baby is a girl, that means 3 girls in one room--which means bunk beds plus a trundle bed underneath!

the closest thing we have to a nursery theme is tie-dyed cloth diapers and onesies

I painted ds1's room a nice pale, spring green with creamy white trim when I was 8 mo pg. I bought some of my fave kids books and had colour copies made of a few great illustrations from each and framed them in Ikea frames. Then I hung the beautiful baby quilt my grandma made him on the wall - it happened to be perfect and he got way more pleasure out of looking at the bold patterns than he would've if I'd used it as a blanket or whatever.

The "nursery" as we call it, is still beautiful and is actually a kids playroom/TV room with a futon - neither ds ever spent the night in there. Our crib, too, was a space gobbling laundry holder. I used to put ds1 in it with the mobile on while I showered (until he was 4-5 mo) so I guess we got our $90 (used) out of it

We're trying to figure out new sleeping arrangements. I'm not keen to sleep on the floor - I find it very uncomfortable, so adding another mattress would be difficult. We have a king made of two twin beds held together by a sturdy mattress pad and sheet. DH and I aren't small people and the bed is already full with the four of us. We're thinking of putting another twin bed in the room (cramming it somewhere?) for the older boys to sleep in (they'll be 3ish and 1ish respectively in November) and DH, I, and new babe will sleep in the big bed. We'll see. I'm hoping the older boys will be enough company for each other that they won't need us right next to them??? Maybe I'm dreaming

I've thought about that. I wanted to put our mattress very low to the ground but not on the ground...do they make frames that sit like 6 inches off the floor? That'd be perfect!

I'm having second thoughts about ours. We had fallen in love a long time ago with the lions in this little flash movie "Come to Kenya, We've got Lions" and wanted to paint some on the walls in the "nursery" - a room we'd painted bright green after moving in.

Now, I'm just not sure about the neon green (Seriously, when the sun shines into the room, it glows X-Files green into the hall.) I'm thinking about choosing a more muted green (even though painting is about the last thing I really want to do) and then decorating eclectically - I've been kicking around the idea of folding 1000 paper cranes and framing them all together. I think that'd be lovely.

No nursery here. Luke didn't have a room until he was 2 or so- although he still doesn't sleep there. Currently it is bright green and blue. Hopefully by the time Nov baby is 2 we will have a room finished in the basement so I will have another room for kids upstairs.
