We usually only notice places when they are rude and in violation of the law. Most places don't seem to notice/ care when I settle in to nurse on the go. But yesterday I had such a great experience with a local business owner, I wanted to share.

On our way to the beach at Atlantic Beach/Neptune Beach intersection, my big kids had to use the restroom. I sized up local shops on the strip, and decided on Lee's Ice Cream as being most likely to have a public bathroom and be relatively inexpensive (I like to patronize businesses when I use their facilities, whenever possible, to encourage them to not be hardliners about bathrooms-for-customers-only policies- Lee's had no such policy posted, but, you know.
). We used the restroom, and then I realized I forgot my wallet. I left the big kids to pick out their ice cream, while I ran to my car with the baby. When I got back, the owner and kids had talked up a storm. (She was super with them, by the way.) We talked about what the big kids wanted, and then owner said, "Now, obviously nothing for Baby C, unless he'll be getting something later, reconstituted- did you want anything?" Breastfeeding is the default, but sometimes seems like no one treats it that way. It was nice to see her doing that. I decided to go ahead and take a break to nurse, and she offered me water and we reminiscenced about nursing our kids (hers are older now). She was also training a newer employee, so the employee got the chance to pick up on the attitude toward and respect for breastfeeding.

It was just really great, and inspired me to share. I think it'd be an especially great spot for new moms, trying to get used to nursing in public (it is a little nerve wracking for me when the babies are itty bitty, and we are just getting the hang of nursing in general).

Have you had any great experiences with specific locations/ want to praise a business on their baby-friendly practices? I'd love to hear them!

I've never had so much as an askance glance in Jax, even while nurisng my squirmy 2-year-old. But I've never had any out-of-ordinary positiveness, either. It's nice to see it happening here! If I ever get over in that direction, I'll make sure to stop in at Lee's. Thanks for the heads up!
