I have a homemade wrap similar to a Moby wrap and both I and my six week old DS are really enjoying it.

Right now I'm mostly wearing him facing me (he doesn't quite have full head control yet) -- I've seen this position called a hug hold and a front wrap cross.

I'm wondering if there is a way to easily switch him from that position to one in which I could nurse him. It looks like I ought to be able to do that, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

I found instructions at mamatoto for a nursing hold, but that requires taking him all the way out of the wrap and re-tying it, and it just isn't practical when I'm on the subway, for example.

Any suggestions for moving him from one position to the other without taking him out of the wrap or doing too much untying and re-tying?

I was not able to nurse at all in the moby, but figured it out within minutes when I tried with a woven wrap (a homemade gausze one).

I just loosen it a bit to let the babe hang lower and we nurse in the 'regular' front facing position.

To make it easy/possible to loosen it while wearing her, I center it in the back and tie the 'cummerbund' part last. To nurse I untie the cummerbund and knot it loosely under her butt.

my baby has been nursing in the front cross (not the fWcc, but the fcc, basicly no cumberbund) since about 3 months old. I just lower her so that she is low enough to reach. but that is in my GM BBB (gauze).

just play with it and remember that the only right way is the way that works for you.

Thanks for the tips, especially the one about the cummerbund. I was able to get DS into a nursing position, although I couldn't get him back up and over to the other side. More practice necessary, I guess.

Those of you who can just move your babe slightly to the side obviously have shorter babies or perkier breasts! Mine are highly subject to gravity, so that really doesn't work for me.

Just in case anyone else ever finds this thread through searching the forum, I found a great slideshow of instructions on how to switch back and forth:

I tried it out and it worked very well! I had been tying the wrap slightly differently, so this really helped me to figure out how to make it work.
