This is my very first post here, so hello to all! My first daughter I nursed for 8 mos. My 2nd daughter is 20mos old & the past couple of months, I swear, she nurses as often as a newborn. Is this common? (Sorry they do not teach us this in RN school!) Around 14mos she was nursing only in the am, nap time, & at night. Now it seems as if anytime I sit down she comes up & says "nurse" (which, by the way, is very cute!). I know I should not tell her no, right? Please any advise would be greatly appreciated!

My experience is a little different because my DS always nurses "like an infant"
. He is 18 months and nurses all the time. I am a stay at home mom and I don't do scheduled nursing so I just go with the flow. But I know everybody's situation is different.

It sounds like she's just in need of a little extra comfort right now, growthspurt &/or emotional.

Yes, it is normal. Their frequecy goes up and down according to whim, mood, and activity levels. Try to get in some extra sleep, you need it I am sure!!

My ds did this too around that time. He slowed down a lot right before his second birthday. A couple months later, he is back asking all the time again. I just try to not get caught sitting down when I'm getting worn out, LOL!

Of course, he has always been a frequent nursing, I don't think every below 8 or 9 times a day, but this was every hour. I remember Dr. Sears talks about this, I think on his website, that babies generally have an increased interest in nursing around 18-24 months.

My 28 month old nurses like an infant- but he never slowed down. I hear this is very common. My first also nursed like an infant at that age- like every half hour.

I agree- get what sleep you can.

Thank you for all the great info! Sorry, I did not say, she does sleep thru the night. Actually she has been sleeping thru the night since 5weeks (9pm to 6 or 7 am). I have been very lucky. My first got up at least once a night for the whole first yr! My 2nd only does this cycle during the day, I guess I should be thankful it is not at night! Priscilla
