Ds has always gone to bed at night by nursing. Sometimes he falls asleep in the car but when it comes down to it....he nurses to sleep.

Well, my supply is almost gone..not sure when it happened either... but I have NO idea how to get ds to settle down for sleep without laatching on. He normally won't lay still, unless latched on, for more than 2 minutes so he never gets still enough for sleep.

Any ideas??

I guess I was naive enough to think he would just figure it out....maybe he will.... I guess I'm lazy I always thought nursing to sleep was perfect!

If you're still okay with it, just keep on letting him nurse. He might not mind that there's no milk. I'm pregnant with #2 and stopped making milk a few months ago. I'm not even sure when my supply ran out, I just noticed one day that he wasn't swallowing and asked him if there was any milk in there. He popped off, said "no" and just kept on nursing. He still often nurses to sleep and to wake up in the morning but it is obviously just for comfort and snuggling purposes. Actually I think this would be a great time to wean him except that I didn't want him to associate weaning with the new baby coming. So I'll keep going for a couple months. I'll be interested to see his reaction when I actually have milk again!

Which will be any day now!

You can help him hold still to fall asleep. Children often trash as they are close to sleep and keep hemselfves fro falling asleep. I'm sure you've seen it.
If you snuggle him up close to you and hold him still, it will help him fall asleep. He will be confused, so this is a good time to sing a lullabye, talk to him, explain to him, "I'm helping you hold your body still so you can rest".

we do backrubs, kisses and hugs, and my husband sings. we are nightweaning, and i'm not nursing her to sleep anymore. she nurses, but doesn't fall asleep, so then we do all that other stuff, and at some point i just turn over so my back is to her and she will either crawl over so she can be in my arms or put her back up against mine and settle in that way. it didn't happen overnight, more like over 2 weeks.
