Nursing is the main way I can get Ella to sleep so we nurse to sleep for naps and at night. She will fall asleep asleep going for a car ride or stroller walk, but that's not very practical or easy. DH can very very rarely get her to sleep by walking in circles around an unmoving ceiling fan

I nurse my 7.5mo to sleep because I like to lay down with him and read my book. DH bounces baby on our bed (with soother), and my parents rock him in the chair (also with soother). Very rarely, when all the conditions are just right, I can put him into the bed drowsy but awake and he puts himself to sleep, holding onto a toy and sucking his soother.

This amuses me greatly. The things these babies can come up with!!

We nurse to sleep most of the time, although I try to pull her off once she's no longer actively sucking (aka Pantley Pull Off), and just rock or pat her to sleep, usually while singing. This works only if she was thisclose to falling asleep anyway though.

We nurse to sleep at nap times and bedtime. Dh can sometimes get him to sleep by sitting at the computer and playing music for him. The only way he will sleep for me is if he's nursing, in the car, or in his stroller if we are going for a walk. But, like you said, that's not very practical at 2 in the morning.

we nurse to sleep too. All.The.Time. It's just about the only way. BF can get him to sleep sometimes by walking, then swaddling, and laying with him for a while. But, he has to be fed immediately before that.

Oh well. I figure he won't need the boob to fall asleep forever
(I've always wanted to use that smilie!)

I wish!! (I think, grass is always greener right??)

My LO rarely nurses to sleep. Ok, in the middle of the night she does, but otherwise she nurses until sleepy and then I bounce her to sleep.

ETA: My calves are rock hard!!! LOL!!

I have to nurse my 8 month old to sleep, most of the time, unless she's very tired. It's definitley a habit/routine, depending how you look at it. She's also a night nurser, since we co sleep. I'm sure it's something she'll grow out of, and then I'll miss it!

I did a double-take b/c I thought that said 7.5yo. I was about to say... WOW!

I nurse my baby to sleep 99% of the time. Sometimes DH is able to get her to sleep by doing stuff from the HBOTB (shushing, side-lying, and rocking). We have also been able to get her to fall asleep in the swing or driving in the car, but that isn't nearly as frequent & she doesn't sleep as long that way.

we nurse to sleep most of the time. like others, ophelia will also fall asleep in the car or stroller. she will randomly fall asleep while being held if we are out somewhere with noise, like friends' parties or something. i pop her off if she's not sucking and we're at the point where i rarely have to put her back on! also, she's at the point where she doesn't really want to nurse if she isn't hungry. i can totally tell when she wants to sleep but doesn't necessarily want to nurse, but she hasn't yet figured out how to fall asleep on her own...

This is a tricky one I'm just learning about! As a newborn he basically always wanted to nurse so no problem.

When he was a newborn, swaddling, shushing, bouncing worked but no more! He's too clever now for that.

Usually. Some nights though, she doesn't fall asleep so we bounce/rock and sing. Throughout the night, she nurses right back to sleep within minutes, but ultimately nursing is our method of choice.

I wish it was as simple as nursing that put him to sleep..

usually it is a combo of nursing/rocking/singing/shusshing/white noise/etc... and most of the time he fights it. but i am working on getting him to fall asleep nursing in bed.. we've had a few successes so far! yay!

luckily at night though all it takes is a quick nurse to get him back to sleep, it is just the initial going to sleep that is tough.

he will also fall asleep in the car or ergo if he is REALLY tired.

dd nurses to sleep most of the time, although this is actually a new thing! She's almost 9 months and only in the last few weeks has she continuously nursed to sleep, before that she would have her paci and rock/bounce!

Yes.. we have been doing this for naps and bedtime for the past few months now. For naps, I used to nurse her first, then take her into bed and pat/rub/shush her to sleep (amid some fussing). Then one day it occurred me I could just lay down with her. After she gets full and falls asleep, I leave and let her nap.

She will go to sleep w/ patting when Daddy is with her (if I'm out of the house). She also falls asleep like a champ in the carseat.

I wish we could have a thread of "BTDT happily ever after" stories that start w/ nursing to sleep. Like "I nursed my LO to sleep until she was 18 months and then she taught herself how to fall asleep on her own and now she goes to bed peacefully and STTN at 3" (or something).

Nobody I know nurses their babies to sleep and they all seem to sleep longer and go right down at bedtime
