Is this super important to your LO? Mine wakes up really grouchy from naps almost daily and in the morning some days. She HAS to nurse during these periods. I guess this has been going on for a couple months. Is this a normal toddler stage? Did your LO grow out of it (not that they don't nurse upon waking now, but they no longer seem possessed by the must-nurse-NOW or else my world will fall apart feeling)???

Ironically she seems more grumpy the better she sleeps. Should I have any concern or is this a normal toddler thing?

Normal.

Every day upon waking in our house - "mom, I need mama milk" any stall tactic or redirection "I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed it!"

Yup, 18 month old dd seems to need it to transition too. Or at least that's what she wants from *me* when she wakes up and I'm there. . . she'll wake up with other people (DP, babysitter, etc) and be fine with cuddles, a snack, drink, etc.

I nurse a 3 yo every morn! and have for over three years! I've never thought about it being a transitional thing....but it makes sense!

Yes, ds is super grouchy and will not settle unless he nurses.

my ds is more dependent on the waking nursing than he is on the going-to-sleep nursing. Apparently it's a pretty life and death situation almost every time.

Normal in my house, both my boys need to nurse whenever they awaken, whether it be in the morning or after a nap, or a sleep in the car when we go somewhere.

My DD nurses every time she wakes up.

I never even thought to have it any other way.
