I don't generally give dd protein shakes, but when she's in a growth spurt she just gets SO HUNGRY. Like tonight she wouldn't sleep and then was STARVING at 10 pm. We've been using spirutein for kids, but I don't like her to have a ton of soy. Any other ideas?

I use LifeTime Life Basics plant protein. It uses rice, pea and hemp w/chia seeds (yay omegas!) and tastes ok (at least the vanilla does). I've mixed it in fruit smoothies for my sister's kids (2&4) and they enjoyed it.

No - I got it when I was pregnant from the natural foods store where I shop (it was the only vegan option they carried) and I think vanilla was the only flavor at the time.

we use a variety of protein sources in our shakes, but to be honest with you we really dig jarrow's whey protein. it is a really clean protein source and yes, we also worry about using too much soy, so this fits the bill. we also add hemp oil, chia seeds, tahini, pb or almond butter, flax seeds, spirulina and kyo green to our smoothies. dd is now 2 and she absolutely loves her green smoothies. oh, you can use hemp milk as the liquid.

dd also loves chia seed pudding. it is easy to make, tastes awesome and really high in protein and good fats.

Peanut butter/banana/chocolate is a favorite here. I am not anti-soy, so we make it with soy milk, but you could use any other creamy drink.

Strawberry/blueberry/carrot/kale with hemp seed, and almonds or cashews, liquid to blend, and a hint of agave is another one we like. You can use juice, water or whatever else.

My smoothies are always improv-jobs with whatever fresh or frozen fruits I have on hand. With my blender, you have to put in ice cubes and other "hard stuff," like frozen strawberries, first. Then I put in the fresh stuff, if I'm using that. Finally, I throw in a squirt of agave nectar or other sweetener (optional), the milk or milk alternative, and the nutritious additives--i.e. flax seeds or a handful of raw cashews (for the protein!) I don't ever by the processed mixes.

Do you add liquid to this? It seems like it would be thick.

Do you have a recipe for the pudding?
