I'm Colleen, 17. Live in NW suburbs of Chicago, Wheeling to be exact. SAHM to Skyler. Fiance` to Dan. To be married 6.16.07.

Skyler was a suprise, he wasn't planned but he was very much wanted. My due date was 1.28.06 but I gave birth to my beautiful bundle of boy on 1.19.06. I an into AP, but I'm not super strict about it. I EBF. I co sleep. I don't vax. I wear my baby as much as he will allow me too. I know I am probably forgetting a lot but I'm sure it wil come to me later.

In august we are starting to TTC #2 given that I get my period back by then ofcourse

I like scrapbooking, graphic arts, horseback riding, gymnastics, playing with my son, breastfeeding, going for walks now that its getting nice out, swimming, my dogs, studying medicine.

I dislike fakes, liars, people who try to conform to what others want just so they fit in, people who sterotype teen mommies as unfit/bad parents, teen mommies who prove teh stereo type to be true, people that think there is only one way to raise a child. I will raise my child the way I want, because it is what is right for me and my family, I don't expect everyone to agree but I do expect you to respect it

Welcome! I look forward to hearing more from you!

I hear you on the teen mom stereotypes. I teach kindergarten in Romeoville, and a lot of my student's parents were mid-teens when they had their kids. One mom is so incredible- she was about 16 when she had her first, and she is so reliable and connected with what is going on with her kids. Another is very hands-off, and never really wants to know what's going on.

Hi Colleen,

Congrats on your baby, your upcoming marriage and on finding your own way.

I'm in Arlington Heights and there are a few of us AP mammas in the NW suburbs. We are definitely not the majority around here and so I commend you even more for knowing and following your heart about how to nurture your baby best.

There's a great mag called "Brain, Child" and last year (I think) one of the editors wrote a great article about her teenaged sister who had become a Mom. She slashed and burned all of the stereotypes about teenage pregnancy and then teenage motherhood.

If you can get your hands on a back issue, you can buy one, or maybe the library will have it, I strongly recommend you get it and have it. It is so affirming and loving.

Welcome to MDC.

Hi Colleen - I'm Colleen!

I lived in Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove until 2002 when I moved to Hoffman Estates - I even worked at Wheeling High School so I know your neighborhood very well!

Congrats on baby Skyler and your upcoming wedding!

Hi Colleen,

My kids love being homeschooled. Well, really, they just love their lives--lots of freedom to learn and happy stuff every day. That's one of the main reasons we're homeschooling--we want them to know themselves and know how to explore the world. They've already got that, so we're having lots of fun as a family.

How were/are you homeschooled? What brought your folks to it? Sorry to be so personal, but I haven't met a lot of grown homeschoolers and I love to hear their perspective when I can.

Thanks,
Laura

I was homeschooled on and off since 2nd grade due to a medical condition but have been strictly homeschooled since freshman year of highschool because of a gang fight I witnessed and a girl got stabbed in the cheek, I just couldn't bring myself to enter the school since then.
When I was little a tutor helped me with all my work now I just do it all on my own though.
Where do your kids homeschool through?
