my fiance is wanting me to find some information for him on the web or in some books about the differences and benefits of ob's and midwives. i can't seem to find much on here and all the books here at the library are old either from the 80's or early-mid 90's. does anyone know any web sites i might look att o get some more info? please?
oh and im also looking for info on birthing centers vs. hospitals for my mother.
they both want a little more recent information since things at hospital may have changed and other research may have been done since they were written.

Henci Goer's book The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth has a chart comparing ob/hospital births, mw/birth center births, and mw/homebirths on various criteria such as pain relief, interventions, comfort of mom, etc. It's an AWESOME book. You should be able to get it at the library -- if not at your local one, then through an inter-library loan.

I found what I thought was some good information on childbirthconnection.com (think that's right...) Look over on the left side for "pregnancy resources" or something along those lines. They also have lists of questions to ask when meeting with an ob or midwife.

hope that helps!

Here are some sites to get your started. the Thinking Woman's Guide is a fabulous read btw!

http://www.modernwife.com/midwife.html

Your choice is going to depend on your point of view and your expectations and wishes for your birth.
I had an OB for the birth of my dd,and am now planning a homebirth with a midwife.
The difference is dramatic. And I would never go back to the OB's model of care unless it was medically impossible for me to have a midwife.
Happy reading!
