Hi,
I'm looking for a natural child-birth friendly OB or midwife for a friend who lives in Gainesville, VA. She prefers a birth center, but is open to a hospital. Can you recommend someone? She is hoping for a small practice.
Many thanks,
Temple

Hi nan,

i'm in Gainesville and looking into a midwife/ birth center as well
There's nothing in Gainesville or Manassas, but there are a few places on the outskirts. Feel free to private message me about it! It would be good to talk to someone else looking for similar services in the area.

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old, but I thought it would be worth it to post a response (hi Jenne!
). Her closest birth center option is BirthCare in Alexandria, VA which can be a hike during rush hour. They also offer homebirth services with the CNMs if she is at all considering homebirth as an option. There are also a few homebirth lay midwives and CPMs she could interview who do births in that area. If she chooses a hospital birth, luckily Prince William Hospital is actually a fairly decent hospital to have a natural birth at- they pride themselves on having the lowest c-section rate in the area (about 18% last time I updated my info) so thsy are not OR happy like INOVA Fairfax for example. They are kind of quick to try to snatch your baby off to the nursery though. Prince William OB/GYN might not be totally gung-ho natural birth, but will repesct your wishes for your birth and be pretty patient with the natural process. Dr. Ng will also- he is a sole practitioner out there. He says he believes in the epidural for women who can't relax during labor, but will work pleasantly with Bradley Method students and respect their wishes during birth. A fellow doula in the area did a HBAC who ended up transfering to the hospital and she said he was great with the mom who ended up having a successful VBAC. Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge has midwives at the Adler Center who are doing prenatal care and births there now if the idea of going to Woodbridge is better than Alexandria. As a Bradley teacher and doula in the Bristow/Gainesville area I've worked with homebirth midwives, Prince William OB, Dr. Ng and the CNMs at the Adler Center and had clients/students who got pretty good birth experiences out of it. All depends on what her expectations are for her birth of course.
