Dh and I are finally seriously considering TTC our last babe. I adore my current OB/GYN, but she didn't seem very in favor of a VBA2C when I asked her about her feelings on it last year. I do need to see an OB or MW that practices with OBs as I have a history of pre-e and premature births, which along with the desire to VBA2C kinda plunks me in the high risk department. I'm looking to have as natural a birth as possible in the hospital.

Location isn't a huge issue, but if they are closer to the southern end of the metro area, it'd be a big plus, we live in Arnold. And if they deliver at St. Mary's, even better, that's where I had my first 3, and I really like it. But those are just the "nice to haves". I'd be up for a longer drive and different hospital if I could VBA2C.

How exciting for you!

I am co-leader of ICAN of St. Louis. Do you know about ICAN? www.ican-online.org We meet once a month to help support moms in cesarean prevention, cesarean recovery and vbac support.

Anyways, there are doctors who will attend a vba2c. I don't know of any docs that have midwives that attend births in a hospital in St. Louis. They have to "back-up" the mw and they won't do it. Kansas City has some and maybe the rest of the state, but not St. Louis. Are you interested in a homebirth?

I had an awesome vbac at St. Mary's and many in our group really like St. Mary's too. My doctor, Dr. Blaskiewicz supports vba2c. I'm sure there are others, but I haven't personally asked them. Feel free to pm me and I can tell you all I know about vbac in St. Louis----which grows every month!

Thank you thank you! I have heard of ICAN, but didn't know there was a local group, how awesome! I'll definitely look into that.

I also had a wonderful VBAC with my middle child at St. Mary's, which is one of the reasons I'd like to go there again if possible.

I'm familiar with Dr. Blaskiewicz, he was part of the practice I saw with my first pregnancy. He might have even been the one who performed that section, I was under general and out of it, and it was 10 years ago, hard to remember! If I'm not mistaken, he also delivered a couple of my brothers! St. Louis can have a small town feel at times! I didn't like the practice he was with at the time, but I think he may have moved, I'll pm you for more details.

I really didn't think I'd find a MW, but it never hurts to ask! I'd love a homebirth, but dh isn't comfortable with it, and I'm not sure that I like how far a good hospital is from our house. If I didn't have this history hanging over my head, I'd totally go for it, but I gotta deal with what is.

I'll also look into Dr. Bale, thanks Abbieandlady. I'm still open to hearing more ideas if any St. Louis mamas have any!

Dr. B is not w/ the practice Durell, Shaner, Jewell, DeRosa anymore. He's the head of the Obstetrics at SLU med school, so he only attends at St. Mary's. The other practice he was w/ is really not that supportive of natural birth or of vbac. I started w/ them too. They are kind docs and have good bedside manner, but that's about it.

Pm me and we'll talk about ICAN!

Dr. Becky Shelton does VBAC's but she delivers mainly out of St. John's and St. Luke's. She does have a MW in her practice who is excellent. I have a friend who is getting ready to have a VBAC with her and has recieved nothing but support.

Does the mw attend births? Or just do prenatals? I know of docs that will have mw do the prenatals, but won't cover them for birth.

I have heard great things about Dr. Bale too, but not his back-up docs.

McBride (his primary backup) is also very very good. But yeah, beyond that some of the others aren't as good.

No Cindy, Dr. Shelton's MW only does the prenatal, but I can't say enough good things about them both, I had two wonderful experiences delivering with her...she really works to help you have the birth you want.

The only thing to be careful of are her backups, Dr. Maxson and Dr. Morley I believe her name is. I was a patient of Maxson's with my first, did not like her at all, she is not supportive of birth plans, unmedicated births, etc. luckily she was not on call the night I gave birth and that was how I met Shelton, she is great!
