Objects in containers also pushing containers

Are these developmental stages?
My son has been interested in pushing containers around the house for the last two months or so (he is 10 months today). He will push baskets, books, boxes, anything similar, around the house either while kneeling or standing.

Also he enjoys placing objects in containers (for the last two months or so). He will place objects on boxes, bags, baskets. When prompted "put the block in the basket" he will happily do so. My husband often says that he will be one very organized boy

Are these developmental stages? Thanks!

Yes, deliberately putting objects in containers is a milestone according to the Denver chart- starting as early as 9 months to as late as 15 months.

It's part of figuring out that things have a purpose, and that objects relate in different ways to each other.

It's a fun time; they're figuring out so much , and can start helping with laundry soon!
My 10 month old loves to stand behind stuff and push it around the house as well... laundry baskets, his sisters crayon box...
we started the pushing around 10 months. at first i was totally perplexed as well but it entertains her so much i pulled out the big huge tonka truck and now she drives it around and rams into everything she can.

as for the putting things away....i've been waiting for THAT one! so far we just like throwing things out.

My 12mo DD started pushing things around 7mo when she started to cruise. She would use anything she could (kitchen stool, toys, baskets, light end table, etc), but I think it was more for support to help her "walk". Now at 12mo she loves her push toys (she's been walking on her own since 9.5mo) and she loves to put things into containers (she's done this for a while now). In the past week or so she's figured out how to throw things into the garbage can. This morning she was picking up tiny bits of dirt and throwing them away.. Although last week she "threw away" the tv remote so I have to keep a look-out! :/ Ha ha.

Thanks everyone! Also that is a helpful and interesting graph ErinYay!
Today my boy was placing small toys in our diaper bag
I suppose these are the ones he would like to take along on our outings today.
