Okay I'm in the process of stripping my diapers (its just time) and after ohh like 9 wash cycles Nothing added the water finially seemed clear, but I also noted how all my diapers had bunched after so many cycles sooo I took them all out opened and did another rinse, TONS of bubbles

I dont understand how this happens. Does it have to do with your water (hard vs. soft)? The kind and amount of detergent you use? The fabric of your diapers?

I have always only ever used Tide powder and just did a very hot wash with no detergent and there were no suds at all.

I just dont understand why it is so bad for some and contributes to the stink and other have none at all and still have stink.

Is it one of the great mysteries of the world?

I got better results stripping by turning my hot water heater up as high as it would go. I checked the temp at my kitchen tap before I turned the heater up and my water was only coming out at about 110 degrees. A couple hours after I increased the temp it was around 140. (I used a meat thermometer in a coffee mug of water.) It made a big difference. There was steam coming out of my washing machine! I turned the water temp back down when I was done as a safety measure against accidental scalding.

if you are stripping pocket diapers, or anything with PUL, the water sometimes gets caught inside the pocket during the spin beacause the pul side is heavier and moves towards the outside of the drum...and since its pul, the water cannot get out which can leave detergent in there. The easiest thing to do is rinse very throughly in your sink under running water and then do a very hot wash with a vinegar rinse.

i need to strip my diapers too now that i am thinking about it!

I hear you I've noticed for me detergent buildup seems to do nothing to affect the performancy of my pocket diapers I mean they were working fine prior to my stripping them. So go figure??

I also notice that some detergents sud up a lot more than others, Tide for me neer really suds up, I use the color of the water as more an indication to buildup. Soapy water will look dingy I want clear water. MY DH "helped" and ran a few diaper washes last week, I need to go over the propeer "amount with him again!

Exactly.

The poly-fabric diapers tend to absorb more smell, while the natural fabrics tend to absorb more soap. So it's really a delicate balance if you're washing everything all together - I always separate the two for both dirty storage and washing separately.
