Is anyone else's DC obsessed with eating ice? Is this within the range of normal or, as I've heard, some symptom of anemia? "Ice" was now-12 mo DS's first word after mama and dada. If he sees you with a drink with ice or hears you get it from the fridge, he'll demand a piece. "Ice, ice, ice."

Sure it can be normal, it seems all 'new' things deserve attention for awhile but it is also a symptom of anemia. Other symptoms (from askdrsears.com)

If you suspect anemia, look for these signs:
Paleness (especially noticeable in the face and earlobes of infants and children; in the palms and nail beds of adults)

* Weakness
* Fatigue
* Shortness of breath
* Irritability
* Difficulty concentrating
* Increased susceptibility to infections
* Intolerance of cold temperatures
* Constipation
* Brittle, flat, thin fingernails

Change "his hands" to "her hands" and that's me! LOL
DD LOVES ice to the point that I've stopped using it b/c she tries to grab it out of my glass or becomes obsessed with having it if she sees it!

Ice is what we sometimes use to settle DS down at night. He'll kick back in DH's arms and suck on a cube. He LOVES ice ("hot" - lol, anything with a temperature - hot or cold - is "hot").

We've even used it as a bribe for taking CLO. But that worked only a couple of times!

Mine is too. But beware if you live up north....a few weeks ago, coming in at dusk, my daughter picked up a piece of ice from the ground and started to munch on it. Except it wasn't ice, it was broken glass. Very scary, but she dropped it after only a few seconds and ended up with only one smallish cut on her lip, which stopped bleeding when we put a cold wet washcloth on it.

15 month old DS is obsessed with ice. Our freezer makes crushed ice and he loves eating the little pieces. He'll sign "more" over and over.
