After the recent thread in TAO about OCD I knew that I wasn't the only one out there.

Where are the rest of you?

*Adding, please feel free to jump in at any time! No one is too late to join!

There are MANY types of OCD, don't think you are not welcome if you do not have one certain type!!

Didnt get online till just a bit ago and saw your link. I have mild OCD mine centers around thoughts instead of physical manifistation. I find myself worrying over things that have little to no chance of happening and it can hit at any time day or night. But usually is worse when I am layine down to go to sleep or driving. I have come to accept it is a part of me but I used to worry about worrying so much. Still do sometimes it can be a horrible cycle.

I do both. And it's odd.

I'm all the time checking on people around me and asking multiple times if they are okay or need anything.

I check doors and the oven (even if I haven't used it in days)
Clean all the time (seems to never help) and I always have to ask for reassurance if I did something right.

Through my six year old's struggles with OCD, I am beginning to see some of his issues, in a milder form, within me. Mostly, I am obsessive. And, mostly, I obsess over my own health. I have had (for years) mysterious physical symptoms that come and go. Each time they come, the obsessing starts again. I also obsess over my husband's safety if he is at work late, or if he's travelling. I have had periods of obsession about my son's health (but, strangely, not my daughter's). Sometimes, these ideas consume me so that I can focus on little else. But I have never been treated, and I eventually snap out of it and have months on end with few obsessions. It's like they come in spurts for me.

I have ocd-I am a nail/finger biter to the highest degree. It is like I can't stand to have a rough spot (although the biting causes it..). I wish I could stop-my fingers look yucky and my son is starting to do it too.
He asks me why do my fingers have red spots on them and why do I bite/chew them and I am not sure how to answer.
Also, I sometimes feel like I have bugs on me.
:
But, for someone so disturbed, I am pretty successful in life.

I don't thinkit is very noticable to the casual observer, but I dream of a day when I am free from this obsession. Any advice?

What's hard for me is to find the line between healthy organization and an OCD melt-down. I went into a chart making frenzy last week and made a chore chart (for me), a general meal plan, and a kitchen helper chart for the kids. I think this is healthy, but I can see me getting mired down by it, you know?

The house is a dump right now because of Harry Potter. I have one room down, six to go. This is my break.

I think that taking a break for HP is ALWAYS okay!

As long as you don't feel like you MUST stick to the charts or your life is going to end, I don't see a problem with them!

Subbing.

I have OCD. I have had two very severe "episodes" in my life - one when I was in college and one about 2 years ago. Now I'm on Zoloft and that has been a miracle cure for me. Anyone else take Zoloft?

I am a little worried now that my daughter might have OCD or at least a tendency toward it. Some of the things she does and says sound like OCD to me, but I don't want to be projecting...

Im here. I have never been diagnosed officially with OCD but every single person that knows me is 100% certain that I have it. I live in complete order, everything has it's place & I can not leave the house if it's not in order. I clean like a mad-woman. I check doors atleast twice, I push the alarm button on my car twice, no matter what. Everything in my cupboards is 'faced.' I put everything in lines. I can not let my Son ride in someone elses car, unless it is my Mother & then I am still a nervous wreck.

I took zoloft for 10 years & just decided recently I didn't want to take it anymore so I quit. I took it for anxiety but It hasn't seem to make my OCD worse by stopping. Anyways...

I was very, very resistant to taking anything for the longest time. Part of that was a feeling that it was a sign of weakness or something, and part of it was that I was not officially diagnosed as OCD until two years ago, so doctors just wanted to give me Xanax or something similar. I am taking a much larger dose of Zoloft than they prescribe for regular anxiety or depression. I would like to gradually stop taking it at some point, but I tried once before and as soon as I reduced my dose even 25 mg I started noticing more obsessive thoughts. I had just started a new job at that time though. I'll try again sometime.

Rachelle - did you just stop taking the Zoloft cold turkey? Did you notice any "withdrawal" type symptoms or any other problems with stopping?

I stopped taking it without telling my doctor, hes been my doc for 24 years & he pretty bossy & domineering, so I knew if I talked to him about it before hand he would talk me out of it. I went from taking 150 mg for 10 years to nothing in a little over a month so I know that was way too fast & I did notice side effects... I was super cranky for about 2 months afterwards, people kind of stayed away from me because I was on edge but I really wanted that crap out of my system.
