Hey Ladies,
 
I thought I would start an October to November Chat thread.
 
Happy Halloween! I hope everyone had a restful weekend and got to see some cute costumes. <img alt="hippie.gif" src="http://files.mothering.com/images/smilies/hippie.gif">
 
My husband and my zombie (for him) / tiki girl (for me)/ zombie baby head (coming out of my stomach) was a hit! And! On top of everything else, today I am seeing movement outside of the belly for the first time! Definitely one of the coolest feelings so far.
 
Anyway, I know it can be rough going sometimes, but a moment like this morning makes it all seem a little brighter. How about for you?

Hi Team GR. I love seeing movement. But my favorite is when the baby gets a little bigger, and you can feel body parts and watch the baby actually shift positions. That's my favorite!!
Good week here as well.
I had contacted a birth photographer (never did this last time) that was recommended by my midwife a month or so ago. Well, we exchanged brief emails, and that was it for then. I had been trying to call her for the last few weeks and had left her several messages. Nothing! So, finally I sent her an email the other day. Totally felt like a crazy stalker and kinda pissed that I was having to work so hard to give someone business. But she is the only one I know of in the area. Well, after not hearing from her, yesterday, my husband and I decided to get a a camera that had better lens options than my current camera. So, it would shoot rather ok in a dim situation. After mulling over cameras all day, finally last night, at 11:15, I finally got an email back from her. Her son had erased all of her voicemails and she had just gotten to my email. She was extremely apologetic. Enough to where I was truly happy, and felt it was a sincere mistake.
Plus, she is working on a project, and I am agreeing to let her use some of the photos, so, I am getting a huge discount. Pretty much the only reason we are ok with spending the money on them.
I am relieved, because even with a good camera, I have no idea who would have taken the pics, and I'm sure they would have been disappointing. Kinda like my pics from my son's birth. Only a few, and kinda crumby.
Gonna take my son to a Halloween event at our local Botanical Gardens tonight. Should be easy to avoid the candy.

slimkins, i am jealous of your upcoming photo shoot. my friend painted my belly when i was preggo with dd and i need her to do it again before i get too huge to want to show it to anybody.
 
i feel awful today, yest dd decided she was "scared" of the vacuum cleaner (but not too scared to be in the ergo on my back while i vacuumed the whole house).. last night i was on the couch and couldn't figure out why it hurt to move. i think i need a chocolate cure. at least it will make me feel better mentally! 
 
i'm going to the ob for a doppler and quick visit today, i scheduled it so i could leave work early

and maybe have a little time to myself! 
 
are any of us in the third trimester yet? i can't believe i am wondering that already. it's flying by.

Haha the zombie head coming out of your stomach sounds too funny. I'm glad people can have fun with their pregnancies.
 
 
 
I'm jealous of slimkins photography shoot too. I was browsing through some photo birth announcements the other day and the pics were so flipping cute. There's not way we could ever get our photos to come out that nice.
 
 
I'm at 27 weeks (Woohoo!) so depends on when you start the third tri. I'm supposed to have an appointment today with the glucose test, but I think I'm going to try and push it back. Our power went out in the snow storm so I've been eating crap this weekend. I know they say you cant change your results, but it doesn't sound like a good idea with the plate of brownies I had for dinner last night....

We are having a rough week here, it looks like our power may be out until Thursday or beyond. I am very grateful to be staying with my in-laws, buuuut...well, you know, they're my in-laws. Hi everyone!
 
We had a fun weekend - I found DD an elephant costume at a consignment shop that is adorable on her. We didn't go trick or treating (too many sweets and she's too young to know what she's missing!) but we did go to two fall/halloween events on fri and sun where she got to dress up.
 
I had a rough day today - I was seeing spots in the morning and was dizzy/nauseated. Although my blood pressure is always on the low side, I was concerned about preeclampsia and my midwife wanted me to come in and get checked.
 
Thankfully, everything is fine with the baby. it was just a migraine coming on. DD was at a babysitter all morning I got a good nap in and have been feeling better, though still a little off. I've also had blood in my urine the last 3 times I've been to the midwife but no other signs of a UTI so I'm a little concerned about that.
 
DD has been very difficult lately as well - she is usually very easygoing but lately has been getting angry/throwing things/having tantrums. I wonder if she is reacting to the baby already?? Has anyone else noticed this? I'm getting bigger and am more tired and have lots of aches and pains, so maybe she is picking up on those changes.

I can't believe what a big kid my daughter has become. We spent 3 hours yesterday in the rain going door to door trick or treating. The kid walked miles, talked to strangers, said thank you and carried her own bucket of candy around all night. Didn't ask to be carried a single time! I'm totally amazed. A few months ago she would have asked me to do the talking, been afraid that there might be dogs, been spooked by big kids and their costumes, etc... I've spent the day exhausted and sore but really thrilled to realize that our timing with kids means that I'm going to have a real kid and a baby at the same time. It's what we were planning for but it's so nice to see it realized! (A big kid that nurses... <img alt="lol.gif" src="http://files.mothering.com/images/smilies/lol.gif">)
 
Hope some others had some Halloween fun! And, sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well, bluedaisy. I've had a recurrent UTI throughout this pregnancy and have just been put on antibiotics indefinitely... I haven't had a single symptom but I have heard blood in urine is a sign. Have you decided to have a urine culture done? Also, about your DD, it might be baby jealousy but it also might be that she's almost 3. I've found my daughter to be much less agreeable and adaptable in the past 6 months or so than ever before. I know lots of moms complain about stubborness, bossiness, and tantrums with 3-4 year olds. Good luck!
 
Blueheron - hope you get the power back soon. I would go crazy staying with my in-laws! Sending lots of patience vibes your way!
 
I'm 24 weeks, I can't wait to be in the third trimester. I think I'm calling it at 26 weeks. That will be exactly 3 months before my EDD.

Hah! I just scheduled my GD test and selected the jelly bean option. Yum and great, huh? But now all I can think is "oh no, you don't think they'll include licorice flavor in the batch, do you?" I'm NOT calling back to ask!

Hello ladies, I still feel like such a newbie here, but I am just going to hop in and join the conversation. We had a good Halloween yesterday, my son who just turned 3 went trick or treating dressed as a train engineer. I thought he would want "mommy do it" but he got right into after a few stops and was polite, just like your dd Parsley, he was fine walking, which was great because I was so sore! It was a good day! Other than that just working as a house cleaner and running around living life. DH is about to have back surgery so we are kind of nervous about that, but I am sure it will be fine. I was so proud of myself today for making stir-fry with TOFU( i have been repulsed by tofu this whole pg) anyway, right after I ate I puked it up! D'oh! It is funny/sad that my main sources of protein as a vegetarian has repulsed me beans, tofu,nuts, peanutbutter, any of the fake meats(don't love anyway). Oh well, I am just hoping for a healthy girl, me and my baby!

Thanks, parsley. It helps a lot that DD really has fun with her grandparents. And I'll leave it at that.

Our whole town is a mess, and we live on a tiny road so the power company will probably get to us last. I'm going to feel lucky if the lights are back on this weekend. We could get by at home (woodstove for heat, propane for cooking), but we both work from home and need the internet. Ah well.
 
So fun to hear about the bigger kids getting into Halloween! DD (20 months) enjoyed handing out candy to other kids. It helps that she has no idea what those shiny foil-wrapped things are.

I'm glad some kiddos were out enjoying Halloween. With the trees and power lines down the areas around us cancelled all the celebrations <img alt="gloomy.gif" src="http://files.mothering.com/images/smilies/gloomy.gif" style="width:15px;height:25px;"> . To top it off our schools all had power so the kids didn't even get a day off.
 
Blueheron: We've been very lucky this time and were only without power for a day. We're out in the rural areas and didn't have power for a week after hurricane Irene. I work from home and had to drive to mcdonalds for a week to use their wifi. I really feel for everyone still without power.

glad everybody had fun halloween trick or treating. i am just proud that we actually managed to carve a jackolantern on halloween night. dd was delighted though. her birthday is tomorrow, she's "two minutes" old, she says.

parsley - you have the option of eating jelly beans for the GD test?! That's awesome. I'd do the test twice if I had that option, heh.
 
I scheduled my candidacy exam. It is in exactly 29 days from today. People think I am crazy for scheduling it so soon but I am really looking forward to finishing it so I don't have to worry about doing it after the baby comes. I'm going to have a crazy month trying to get everything finished on top of preparing for my exam, but it'll be worth it!

Hi everyone
I am more of a lurker, but just wanted to let you know Parsley that you are not alone with the UTI problem. I have had no symptoms all pregnancy, but this is my 3rd or 4th round of antibiotics and I too will be on them indefinitely if my urine does not cooperate at my visit next week. Helps to hear that I am not alone!
 
I also had an interesting event a few weeks back when I felt like I was having pre-term labor like I did during my last pregnancy (had to get a shot to stop contractions then). I tried to rest on my side for a few hours and drank lots of water, but the uncomfortableness was not going away so they had me go to L & D due to my history. I am 24 weeks.
 
Once there and all hooked up to monitors, thankfully, the pains subsided. However, the L&D nurse did an internal check and as she starts her check she says with surprise "Oh, it's right there!" and of course I'm thinking, please don't be the baby!!! And she says I will be right back and then she comes back with another nurse who checks and reaches the same conclusion and they confer. Then the first nurse tells me that she wanted a second nurses opinion because she couldn't believe how low (?) my cervix was, I guess right there when she checked and she said it should have been a bit of a reach to get to and then she said that I am also a 1/2 centimeter dilated. She released me and said just to go see my DR prior to returning to work and rest.
 
Ok, so I go to see my DR the next day, I go to a practice with 3 OB's, and I get my least favorite who says that it is all related to my UTI, which they had not told me I still had from my appt. a week prior, and to get on more antibiotics. He was not concerned about the cervix at all, so I am not being concerned either, although I am looking forward to my next appt in a week, even though I have to do the glucose test, and then my next ultrasound next week.
 
Maybe the cervix thing is just normal and means I will be lucky enough to have a speedier delivery? Ugh, I just dislike this DR so much, (chewing gum or hard candy the whole appt like a cow) even though he is better than the one who delivered my last. I hope I get one of the other 2 ladies for my actual delivery!

We had a costume party here with a big pot of chili and lots of dressed up peeps. We don't really do Halloween stuff but my youngest asked if we could have a Pirate party. So, on Oct. 30th, we asked people to come by for a costume party, with the preference of it being pirate dress up! i was a bearded pirate which was hilarious with my belly, of course! We are only in Bali for a few more weeks. We have a bit of time in Korea as it's our halfway destination back to the States. We take an extended layover there for a few extra bucks and to break up our home trip while getting to see more of Asia. I am planning some of the trip today and getting so excited about it! There is a lantern festival while we are there.
 
slimkins- exciting about a birth photographer! will you have some pregnancy photos done, too? i have never had professional photos done but a dear friend is a photographer that I would really like to support so I am thinking about having some done in Dec. or Jan. She's also a wonderful birth photographer that I have enjoyed attending births with! If my birth team wasn't already so full, I would love to have her there. 
 
ramzubo- i miss so many different foods from the USA. I love so much of what is here, of course. drinking coconut water straight out of the coconut then scooping that yummy 'meat' out is incredible! i am thankful for lots of fresh veggies and fruits. but, i eat potato chips now pretty often since i found them. i didn't find them the first month but about 3 weeks ago they became a staple! and, i don't have a power outage to blame, really. 
 
bluedaisy- i say that three is like the month of march- in like a lion, out like a lamb. it's so intense at the first part of the year but they become so much more settled in themselves, calmer and capable of actually doing more of what they have wanted to do the past 6 months. that's just been my experience with my two. my daughter turned 3 in Feb. of this year. 
 
grapeape- fellow vegetarian with an aversion to tofu here, too. ugh. it's GMO mainly here and that repulses me more than anything. but, somehow the tempe being fermented works for me. lots of lentil soups these days. 
 
hildaire- happy birthday to your babe and happy mother's day to you! my oldest has her birthday on sunday!!!

Yay, atomicrocket and good luck! I think your timing makes a lot of sense. It will be great for you to have some time after the exam to focus a little more on baby stuff. 
 
Laxcat - thanks for coming out of hiding. It's really nice to hear that I"m not the only one with this problem. Though I'm sorry to hear that you are stuck with all the antibiotics too! At least there aren't any symptoms (though it's hard to not be skeptical about having to treat an infection that you have no sign of, no?). I can't imagine though how the UTI's would effect your cervix. I'd love to hear the explanation if you ever get one!
 
It's funny, I haven't cooked with tofu this whole pregnancy. I'll eat it in take-in but that's it. I didn't realize it was an aversion until you brought it up, Grapeape. I also seem to like cheese less than at any other point in my entire life. Helps with weight control

And, as for nutrition, fortunately, I still love beans and legumes.

All the aversions to tofu are fascinating, especially since I was having one as well and wasn't sure- I'm happy to eat it in stir-fry or something else when it's first cooked, but I can't stand the leftovers!
 
In other news, I'm started to develop some varicose veins, particularly behind my left knee.... has anyone else dealt with this before? Can recommend some good compression socks?

I guess the November DDC went the social group route. I totally get wanting the privacy it provides (I assume it's private), but am I the only one who misses following this month's group of ladies have their babies? I just hope December and, especially, January don't do that.
