OK maybe this won't exactly be an ode, but can I just say how much I love my midwife?

I have her cell phone number. Whenever something concerns me I can just call her and talk directly to her. Or I can leave a message and she calls me back within a couple hours.

I don't have to deal with snarky receptionists telling me that there are more important callers and that they'll get to me when they can.

I don't have to show up before her all pale and sickly before she takes me seriously.

I get an answer for my problem right away.

So glad I made the decision to find a midwife and birth at home.

LOL, I was the same way when I was pregnant and made the switch...but now that I've had the baby, I'm REALLY crazy about my midwife! When I was pregnant, my friends teased me about it because I never stopped talking about how wonderful my midwife was. But now...wow, I had no idea how wonderful she was. And her apprentice was...wow, so amazing, I don't even have words for it. (The apprentice spent ALL NIGHT at my house while I was in labor, watching me try to sleep between contractions and making sure I didn't drown in the waterbirthing tub, which was the only place I could relax. DH was falling asleep...but my midwife's apprentice was THERE. And she wasn't even getting paid!)

And aren't those two hour prenatal visits wonderful?

I was at playgroup today with a couple of moms who both wanted totally natural drug-free births and ended up with C-sections...and I honestly felt so bad for them, listening to their stories, and then sharing my wonderful homebirth story which is exactly like everything that everybody dreams of having in labor. (Well, okay, not the orgasmic birth part that Ina May talks about, which I was shooting for, but hey, next time. ) Anyway, I really did have the birth that everyone dreams of, despite the fact that it was 38 hours long, and, well, I know I couldn't have done it without drugs if I'd been in the hospital.

Ain't homebirthing great?!?

Seriously! The most I get with my OB is 5 minutes. The MW is always spending so much time with me. I just love her.
