Can I whine?
We just had 12 fruit trees delivered to our house. Dh is at trial (he's a military lawyer) and won't be home until Friday night. And these babies need to go in the ground ASAP. So I'm out there in the cold, wind, and drizzle, heaving my big ole preggo belly around digging holes. The big kids are helping, but it's still up to me to do a big majority of the work.

I'm feeling so sorry for myself.

That's it. Whine over. Back to work I go.

Yikes! That's not a whine, that's a legitimate complaint! Can't you hire a gardener type person?

Ashley, who would never plant trees by herself, married to a guy who would far rather pay someone $30 to plant a tree than hurt his back.

I was exactly thinking the same thing about a high school kid. Many are on spring break this week, and lots are trying to earn money to go on one trip or another with some type of organization!

I know, I know. I surely could find someone to do it for me. But, that doesn't seem like the homesteader's way, you know? Ma Ingalls sure couldn't post on craigslist!!! I do have a gaggle of kids coming tomorrow and they will all be digging while I teach their moms how to make cheese...it's my little bargain
And on Saturday, my dad is going to come help and dh will be home and I can take a nap!! In the meantime, I'm just plodding on, getting it done one at a time. One tree down, 11 more to go. And, it does look mighty fine, if I do say so myself!

Oh my! I certainly couldn't do it at this point!
Hey, ma ingalls would stand up, wipe the sweat from her brow, and see Mr. Edwards leading a crowd of townspeople with shovels down the road to take over for her

Tomorrow sounds like fun!

I hear ya! I'm in the midst of wheel barrowing compost, digging, tilling, and leaning over to plant our garden for the summer --- it's all me for 99% of it. Today I just didn't have it in me to do any more than pick a few weeds!

Hey, I guess I got my "Mr. Edwards" moment afterall! My 3 friends, who among them have 14 kids old enough to shovel, showed up to let me teach them how to make cheese and meanwhile, those kids, along with my 2 older ones, dug their little hearts out & they were all finished with all the holes (& even did it right!) in less than 2 hours! Dh was home by then and we did the work of planting, but that is soooo much easier on a pregnant mama than digging. All my trees are now in and fenced off from munching animals and all is good! (Now, back to the regular gardening!!)
