Oh Crap!

I just found my cow's milk protein intolerant 13 month old sitting on the floor in puddle of milk drinking from her brother's cup. If I had to guess she ingested probably 4oz of whole cow's milk.

Is there anything I can do to lessen the damage?

Vitamin C would be my first thought.

Pat
a sprinkle of digestive enzyme to help her body break it down?

Benedryl would be my other thought. (but it has corn, isn't that an issue???)

Well, she's already asleep for the night but she will probably wake in a few hours so I can give her a little concoction of Vit C and digestive enzymes then. Corn isn't a problem for us, but since her issues are not IgE would the Benedryl still help?

Thanks for the quick responses Mamas!
Oh, man. I have a CMPI kid, too (19 months), so I feel you. I don't have any suggestions for medications, etc (the research I've done suggests there's really nothing to help intolerances), but I just wanted to sympathize. We're just coming out the other end of an accidental (but likely small) ingestion, and we've dealt with tantrums, gas, bad sleep, and monstrous poops. All I can suggest is to just give her lots of leeway the next few weeks, behavior-wise. If her symptoms are GI pain, maybe Tylenol or Ibuprofen would help, but I don't have any first-hand experience with it.
We also do Gripe Water to help with the reaction.

Well, she was restless through the night but that isn't all that unusual for her. She had a few wet burps, but again nothing really out of the range of normal. Poops have been pretty normal. I'm completely baffled. We did a butter trial at Thanksgiving and she had noticably looser stools then. So how could she drink whole milk straight and not react? Unless either she didn't get as much into her as I thought (she is notoriously a poor cup drinker - can't seal her lips around it very well at all). But because I knew approx how much was in the cup and could see how much was on the floor and on her clothing it seemed like a fair amt went inside of her. The other possibility is that she reacts less severely to foods she directly ingests as opposed to through BM. Is that possible???

i sometimes think that dds reactions are worse when i eat something and bf her than when she eats something directly. i'm so glad she didnt have a horrible night!

I think that's possible if you have an issue with dairy. So...even if she would otherwise be okay with certain dairy she is reacting to the antibodies produced by you when you eat it. I think this happened to CS at one point????

Well, here's more evidence to support that theory: Last night we went out to eat and I ordered something with cream to test the theory that maybe she was clearing dairy. Today she's definitely reacting - very refluxy, fussy, loose stools.

But you're not noticing any reaction to dairy at all in yourself? I know that people can be intollerant to things that they don't realize since the manifestation can be in chronic conditions or something (IBS, Kathy's back pain for examples). Honestly, I'm totally a person who would wait a few days and then try some dairy directly to your LO again and see what happens. I know many will disagree and I'm not saying it's necessarily a good thing to do - but I know I would be tempted to test it again.

Well, I was a little gassy and bloated last night after the dinner but I figured I just over-ate. It wasn't anything like when I did my soy trial and had a big plate of tofu scramble after not eating soy for months and I felt like crap! But I did test positive on the SPT to dairy so ... My body must be somewhat sensitive to it.

Hmm...

I think I will test it again, and this time just Ellie to see what happens.
