I am going to go deaf. My 11 month old has found her screamer. These are not sad, angry, mad screams. These are happy, woohoo, listen to me!! kind of screams. She is soooo loud, I can't even believe it. My ears have been ringing for 2 hours from one time she screamed right in my ear, just out of the blue (of course there is no warning so that I can get out of her way!!).

Anybody else in this camp, too??

I am trying not to laugh or smile at her when she does it (although sometimes it's hard not to), but other than not encouraging it in that way, what can I do encourage her to STOP??!!

Thanks!!!!!!

OMG! My DD just started doing this today! She is a little over 10 months. She was sitting in my lap and just started going to town. She's done it once or twice before, but today it was clearly just for the fun of it, and repeatedly at that. No hints for you yet; at this point I'm just glad that I'll have some variety instead of all the whining! :LOL

With my son, he just got tired of it eventually. There's really nothing you can do - they are simply experimenting and learning what they can do. He learned something else and moved on (although, admittedly, he does do it at least once a week still because he thinks it's so fun!)

Mama you are so not alone. My son has screamed ear piercingly (<-----not sure if thats word) since birth. He screams in happiness and anger. I am not only going to be full of white hair before my children reach 18 I will be hard of hearing as well

*raises hand* screamer here. she discovered her inner monkey at 7 months. i hate to think she could go through the phase again, even louder, at 11 or 12 months! i know what you mean about your ears ringing! a friend told me what she had done with her kids, when they screamed she'd do that thing where you wiggle your finger against their lips, it makes them sound like they're underwater (hard to describe!). then she'd do it to her lips while making noise, then their lips again ... it'd turn a scream into giggles at all the silly sounds
i tried it with Willow and it worked like a charm!
i try to ignore a few screams so she can have fun practicing her voice, but if it's in public or if i'm getting a headache from it, it's fun to turn it into the "blub-blub-blub" game (for lack of a better name). it doesn't stop her from starting to scream, but it does turn it into a silly (and quieter!) game
