I'm looking at getting an Ameda Purely Yours or a Medela Pump in Style....Some PIS posts (on eBay) claims that there's no reserve (I thought there was one??) or that milk has never been drawn up the tubes and into the pump...

What exactly is there to be concernedabout with getting a used pump?? Where does the potential danger lie- in the tubes, the reserve, the pump??

I had heard the Amedas don't have the same issues the PISs do??

I'm so confused...

I don't know about the Ameda, but the PIS can suck milk into the tubing. That said, I do have a used PIS that I bought very cheaply from my neighbor who is an OB
I did buy new tubing through a local hospital though.

Not only can it draw it up through the tubes but in theory the diaphragm cap as well, you can get replacements for both of these. No reserve in ebay usually means no price that bidding has to reach for the item to sell. For example if I was selling a pump that I wanted at least $100 for I might start the bid at $20 to get people to bite but set a reserve for $100. If the highest bid was $80 I simply wouldn't sell it. The Ameda PY-and hospital grade medelas differs from the PIS in that they have a membrane that keeps bacteria/viruses from entering the pump itself. IMHO whatever. Clean it good, get new parts, just realize that the motor may go at some point depending on how long the previous owner used it!
