My neighbors little boy came down to the house yesterday to ask if he could play with my son, I told him not right now I'm cleaning. He said You're STILL cleaning?!? Thats when I realized every time he came down to play I'd send him back up with the excuse that I was cleaning! Although if you looked at my house you'd never think that I had cleaned anything! Please tell me that aside from ordinary chores that there is a light at the end of my very long tunnel! When I set out on decluttering my house I didn't know what I was taking on! I know how I want my house to look but it seems that It is taking a very long time to get there. My sister says do it in little bits but I'm getting annoyed! Its driving my crazy! I try to free cycle what I don't want but I want every thing out of the house right away! And with some of the no shows it gets hectic to remember what goes and what I have to spend more time relisting, but I feel guilty throwing things out! Well thanks for listening to me rant! I really appreciate it! Erin

Hmmm, that sound like it's become very overwhelming. Is your son able to play on his own with the friend with you nearby but still working? Maybe your son would enjoy that and you would be able to get even more done?

I know it's hard but hang in there!! Decluttering takes time and effort, but it's so worth it!!

Can you do a freesale? Where you put everything out in the driveway/lawn and then tell the freecyclers to come and get what they want? I know some freecycle lists allow that and some dont. Also, I've had really good luck with the Free section on Craigslist. What about packing it all up and taking it to a thrift store or consignment shop?

Good luck!

I would let the boys play together in my sons room and it goes pretty good for a bit and then the friend will come in to the room to ask me the most mundane questions, "Why do you have 3 cats instead of just one?" "If you have so much stuff are you rich?" I don't like to send my son upstairs to often because my neighbor has 5 children I don't think its fair for her to have to watch one more! Right now I'm in the middle of trying to declutter the kids toys and I have them all in the living room and just looking at them is driving me to move and not pack any thing!
I've thought about putting out everything I don't want and putting an add on freecycle with the stipulation that what evers not taken goes in the (cringe) Trash. Thank you for answering me and talking me down off my cluttered window ledge and keeping me from jumping! (Don't worry we live on the first floor lol) I just have to keep plugging along sooner or later I'll get there. Maybe I'll post as I get closer to my goals and let you know how it goes! Thanks again Erin

Have you tried just setting stuff by the road/dumpster? I do this often with anything from furniture, clothes, old mattresses, vaccums, old toys etc. It is usually gone within the day or by the second day at the most. We are in a house now so we set it by the road, but when we lived in an apartment I would set it by the dumpster and it would get taken by people. I just always imagine it going to just the right person right away. I got annoyed with freecycle delays also. Although I still really like freecycle.

To Goodwill or the like.

Anything not good enough for Goodwill I toss. If someone wants to pick it out of the trash they are more than welcome. I'm a trash picker myself so I'm cool with that.

My only rule for getting rid of stuff is to make it as simple as possible. It's really easy to hang on to stuff for *years* (BTDT) waiting for just the right circumstances.

I started my journey toward a clean house by decluttering for several months. When I finally got some breathing space, I started cleaning. I'm not declutterng ATM, I'm taking a break. Most of the clutter is out of sight so it's not SO bad. Now I'm working on cleaning/maintaining two rooms. When I've got those under control, I'll add another.

Plus I'll have to do one more big declutter soon. I've been doing a weekly, smaller declutter all along.

I think Flylady and the SHE ladies give the wrong impression sometimes. It's going to take a long time for me to undo years of bad habits and disorganization. it's not going to happen in 3 weeks.

I'm starting to see some progress though and it's great.

I had this great dream! I woke up (in the dream) and my house was clean! There wasn't a bit of clutter I had these great things hung up on the walls! I woke up feeling so great! I didn't let myself get depressed looking at all the stuff in the house because what good would it do! It will get clean sooner or later! Then my sister called me and told me that she decided to go through with having her garage sale after all! So far I brought over 4 boxes and possibly 3 bags of clothes for her! I still have more to go but its going! Thank you for all the advice and suggestions I really appreciate them! I will hopefully post pics soon Of my before and afters of the house. I'm so happy I want the house I saw in my dream! Erin!

I don't think I'll ever be able to dig out. I figure it's taken my whole life to accumulate all this junk...er, stuff. It's going to take a LONG time to get rid of it all. So depressing. Ah.
