What on earth is flax seed for? I found some on clearance sale in the organic section of the store and I thought "what the heck...it's on sale, I'll get it and use it." Then I get home and realize that I have no idea what I'm supposed to be using it for...
: Yeah, I realize I did it backwards, but it was on sale, and I hear people talking about it all the time on here. I'm slowly switching our pantry to whole grains, natural, and organic foods, and this just seemed like one of those things people say you should have. (LOL...for the record, I just recently learned what you could use wheat germ for too, and decided that I really like that too! LOL!)

you can use it as an egg substitute (grind and blend w/ water ~ there's a recipe in How It All Vegan for it)...

or make flax seed bread...

or flax seed muffins...

i've ground them up and used them in cookies...

they're an excellent source of both fiber + omega 3 fatty acids. flax seeds are lovely.

you can also sprinkle them on top of oatmeal, grind them and mix them in with other hot cereals, or sprinkle on top of salads.

Wow, I'm disappointed. That wasn't really a stupid question at all.

Store the flax seeds in the freezer, the oil in them is really perishable. It's the oil that makes them nutritionally valuable, though you know fiber is a good thing too.

Ah, now are you trying to tell me there's no nutritional value in worms?

LOL...give me time... I bet I can think of even stupider questions... LOL!!! For example, can wheat germ take the place of prenatal vitamins since prenatal vits are nasty smelling and wheat germ has a ton of folic acid?

Man, well if that's the case, I wish I knew about those during pregnancy!
: No problems there now, but a little extra fiber probably wouldn't hurt anything.

LMAO about being a vegetarian....are worms considered meat? I guess I never really thought about it...we try not to eat them.

just jumping in to say if you put flax seeds in a bowl and cover with water, just barely, it makes thick jel-like stuff. I use it for body lotion, hair gel, hand lotion, on my lips. It has no smell and I think would work even if you had allerigies to lotions and perfums??????

Ooooh, I didn't know they were useful for lactating women too! Now, why didn't anyone tell me it could increase breastmilk fatty acid way back when my son first got diagnosed with failure to thrive? I bet that helps a little!
