I did read the 'about' section on the site, but I want to hear it from people who've done it. What is it? a contest? just a month where you can 'finish' what you started? something that has rules and regulations? I joined with the entention of using it to finish something already started. Now I feel as though I'm not doing it right? but I'm not interested in a contest. So am I waisting my time doing NaNoWiMo? Does anyone else just us it for support and a sort of push to get the job done? Or is it just really for a contest?

Hey, I wonder why nobody has answered you yet?! It is a contest that pits you against yourself. It is an opportunity to join forces with a whole bunch of other aspiring and actual novelists to challenge yourself to write 50,000 words in the month of November. If you do, you win. And that's your prize, 50,000 words that you clacked out with your very own fingers!<br><br>
It is not for finishing what you've already started. In fact, that is against the "rules."<br><br>
Good luck and hope to "see" you there!<br><br>

Yes, that's against the rules, but there are no NANOWRIMO police who will chase you down for it.<br>
It is frustrating b/c you're strictly trying to meet word count and I don't want to do that with characters I have an investment in, kwim?
