My curiosity is killing me<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"> Why do a lot of posters here type out veg*n instead of vegan? Is there some significance behind it? At first I thought it was just a typo, but it's so prevalent. Can someone satisfy my curiosity?<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink">

That's what I've been told. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

I thought it originated in Europe, sort of like an apostrophe.

This. It's a shortcut to writing out vegan/vegetarian.

Thanks, that's helpful!<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"> I was reading it as vegan, but it really encompasses both.

So was I. And I basically read it with the <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/heartbeat.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="heartbeat"> that one is just very proud to be vegan. At least that's my interpretation and the reason why I used it in my siggi this way. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">
