I just moved from Minneapolis MN to Cinncy OH. I had amazing hb there and midwives and hb services are ALLLLLL over!! All you have to do is type in hb and tons and tons of websites and personal emails/people pop up! I am having the HARDESTTTTTT time finding ANYONE for OH!!!

I live in Liberty Township, but I'm willing to drive a while for appts ect. Also I have med- ish births so time is not a super big issue--- 1st was 26hrs, 2nd was 8hrs, third was about 7.

I am desperate to find someone!! My biggest reason as to why I want to see someone soon is that I just had a baby 6mo ago! And I'm nursing round' the clock--- i figure i could use more advice this pg.

Uhm the midwives aren't exactly legal (or illegal) and they aren't recognized as medical careproviders, so you have to look a little closer.

I don't know any in the cinci area, but there are sure to be some. You can call CHOICE in Columbus and they will probably know who is down your way. Good luck!

I think if you search back in this forum there is a good reference to a medical doc who is very good on natural birth, etc. I searched for my cousin in Cincy and could not find a mw, though. Actually I considered moving back home to Cincy after my CNM to do homebirths, but the legal situation is not very good. Sorry.

Dr. Bowen--and I have heard that he does have some relationships with the homebirth community as well.

Also, check with LLL. They tend to be in the know. Finally, I know there is at least one homebirth circle in the Cincy area but don't personally have any information on it.

They exist! I'd recommend you join the Cincinnati Homebirth yahoo group. (groups.yahoo.com then search for "cincinnati homebirth"). There is a great homebirth community in your area!

I live and cincy and from what I've heard, you really do have to "know" people to find the HB midwives. The advice I was given was to join the yahoo homebirth group and go to the meetings- they can hook you up, for sure.

I'm a homebirth midwife in Jackson, OH. There are so many midwives around me, I need more clients, why can't you find us? People found me even before there was an internet, why is it harder now? There are many more of us to choose from.

Hey ladies! There ARE midwives and a healthy homebirth community in and around Cincinnati! Check out the Cincinnati Homebirth Network at Yahoogroups.com and the Cincinnati Homebirth Circle on Facebook and come to the monthly meetings from 1:30/2:00-4:00 on the last Sunday of the month (next meeting is September 25), where you will get lots of good information and referrals. Also check out the women of Water and Spirit Midwifery, which has a Facebook business page. They have twice monthly "Meet the Midwives" information sessions on the first Sunday of each month from 3 to 5 and the third Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 (next meeting is September 20).

This is an old thread but I wanted to point out that Nurse Midwives are only able to practice in a hospital. There are plenty of home birth midwives practicing. They are not illegal nor legal, they are in the gray area.

Nurse midwives may practice in any setting, in hospital or out, in Ohio. Their practice regulations don't limit this. What limits where they practice is the Standard Care Arrangement with their consulting doctor. If he/she doesn't agree that the practice will include birth OOH, then they can't provide services there.

I know this because I am a CNM with a home and birth center practice, and am licensed in both Ohio and Michigan.

yes, I'm still here! Other LEGAL midwives are too! Shame on the people who lead others to think we are illegal! Maybe some midwives are practicing illegally, but not all.
