olive oil in wipes solution

557 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  penny31
I just made my first solution for my cloth wipes. I was using just water, but they started to smell funny. It was fun, and they smell so good now! Here's what I used:

3 c water
1/8 c olive oil
1 1/2 tsp baby shampoo
3 drops tea tree oil

I usually just toss the wipes in with my diapers to be washed together. So here's my question- will the olive oil make a residue on my diapers and make them less absorbent? Has anyone had problems with that?

TIA

I have been using olive oil in the wipes water with soap and other oils for a long time now (well, maybe 11 months
)
and never had that problem, interesting question, though.

I am curious what others have to say.

I dont use the wipes that much anymore, except if she poops....but that just started a few months ago.

I use the Punkin Butt recipe -

3 cups distilled water (OK, I use bottled water)

1/2 Tbsp. Natural Baby Wash or Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile Soaps. (Dr. Bronner's Hemp Almond)

1/2 Tbsp. Natural Apricot, Almond or Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EV Olive Oil)

1 Tbsp. 100% Aloe Vera Gel

3 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil (an anti-fungal) (OK, 6 drops)

3 drops Lavender Essential Oil (6 drops here too!)

and I always toss them in the wash with all my dipes (that are all fleece lined, basically). My theory (may not be sound
: ) is that since I am am putting them in at the beginning of the cycle, the detergent is getting all the oil out. It isn't like putting TTO or something in the rinse water, right? Plus, it is such a MINUTE amount that gets on any one bunch of wipes.
Anyway, we haven't had any problems yet!
XOXO
