OK so i am soooo stressing out right now.. A few weeks ago DS was a few weeks old and was having a very very hard time sleeping and would refuse the boob if offered, so we gave in and gave him a nuk. I knew it was a bad idea at the time but i never knew it would turn into such an issue.. He is now obssessed with it, he will nurse for maybe 10 minutes then pop off and scream until i give it to him, then he will happly suck all day... I want to be that nuk, i am afraid that it will hurt any extended nursing relationship we will ever have, I want to take it away but he will scream for hours and i dont want that either. Any ideas, i know it has to go NOW.

I don't really have any suggestions for you, but wanted to respond since I remember being so tempted to do the same thing when DS was a few weeks old, too. I held out a couple more weeks, and now I'm struggling with weaning him from it. Actually, come to think of it, Pantley has some good ideas in No Cry Sleep Solution. They've dubbed it the Pantley Pull Off...maybe that will help you.

That is a tough quandry mommy. My baby wouldn't take a passie. I did have a girlfriend that had a very good experience with a pacifier baby and no problems nursing him Exclusively until age 15 months. She wasn't wanting to do it after that but it was horrible to get the passie from him I think she was unsympathetic and hid them when he turned 2.

I personally wouldn't worry too much for a few weeks. Keep nursing and just see if it is a phase. Some babies really do get a lot of comfort from them and since you are such a commited BF I think you two will be just fine. If you find he isn't eating enough or nursing enough you could always slowly make it unavailable and offer the breast.

Let us know how it goes.

My ds is a paci user as well....thought he wouldn't want it, turns out he loves it. I did try the finger, but it got tiring having my finger stuck in his mouthfor so long...Now it's our favorite toy...it's not only comforting, but also fun for the whole family!! I went through a phase when I thought I should wean him of it, but since it is comforting to him, I've kinda come to terms with it. We haven't had any problems with nursing and ds is 11 months.

We are pretty much in the same boat. DS is almost 9 months, and has been using a pacifier since 6 weeks. He would get mad cause he wanted to suck but was full, so we tried the pacifier. It really bothered me at first, but he really likes it, it comforts him a lot, so I think it's worth it to let him have it. I haven't had any supply problems, either.

My son took a pacifer the next day he was born because I could not get him to settle down by nursing, he would get full and not want to nurse. So I gave in all the time being annoyed that I was giving it to him but he decided at 9 months that he did not like it any more. So I just stopped giving it to him, I think if I wanted to i could have made him keep taking it but I had been looking for an oppertunity to wean him from it, and when It came I encouraged it. So It may be what your baby needs unless the baby wants it instead of feeding and starts to loose weight. But some babies just need the extra comfort but won't take it by nursing the key is to try to not use it when the baby is happy just when they do not settle down. Good Luck
