Hiya all- just got my beautiful Celtic -design onbohimo from Kaire at FreeHand Baby Carriers. I have been so excited about it for weeks but when I put ds in it he just seems too be riding really low---I don't really even know how to tie the thing--can someone help me??? I am getting so discouraged and am dying to use it!!!

I just looked at her site and it seems like the straps aren't adjustable at all. Is this right? If so, I would email Kaire and see if she'll adjust the straps for you. It looks like you probably need shorter straps although I should post a disclaimer here saying that I have never seen one of these carriers, it's just an impression.

I was gonna order one until I found that out.
Um, well, I have both the Onbuhimo sold by Kaire at Freehand and the one sold by Peppermint and...as much as I hate to argue with Kaire about her own carrier
...I love her Onbuhimo rucksack (ie straps not crossed). I tend to prefer to wear all my ABC style carriers with the straps crossed cause I prefer comfort over fashion, but of any of them, I think her Onbu is about the most comfortable I have tried rucksack.

The Japanese Onbuhimo sold by Peppermint has narrower and slightly more padded straps than the one sold by Freehand. I really like the feel of the wider straps on my shoulders but, IME, the straps on the Freehand Onbu are too wide to comfortably be twisted in the front the way that the it is shown on the Peppermint site. I use mine either crossed once in front or else rucksack.

I just posted detailed use instructions on a different Onbu thread...You can check them out here http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=158996 . But if your baby is ending up too low, you just need to stand straight after you get the straps threaded through the rings, bounce a bit and pull on the straps till your baby is high on your back and you both feel comfortable.

HTH-
