Hi!
Anyone know? Can you use a pocket diaper (fuzzi bunz etc) for a swim diaper and then wash it and use it for a regular diaper again? Or does the chlorine ruin it in some way for regular use?

TIA!

I wouldn't recommend using a fb as a swim diaper. While they may appear to be like a swim diaper at first glance, they are not made for that. The elastic on a fb is not as tight as a swim diaper, especially around the back. They also do not fit as snuggly as cloth swim diapers.

If you are near a Target, they usually sell cloth swim diapers around where the baby/toddler swimsuits are.

It never bothered ours any. I've had my medium fuzzi bunz for more than four years, and they've been used as swim diapers countless times, and yeah they're worn out a bit, but four years is going to wear a diaper out, so I don't think it's the chlorine. That rinses out easily. There's chlorine in my city water supply, so my diapers must be exposed to it every time they're washed, anyway.

A hint-- if you're using a pocket diaper or diaper cover for a swim diaper, just use one that's a bit too small for baby normally. Without a diaper inside, it won't be too small, and you'll get a snugger fit around the legs and waist. No need to buy some specialized swim diaper at all.

Some people have talked about the pocket filling up with water and weighting baby down, but it's not like you're going to leave a baby alone in the water, so you'll be right there to snatch baby up if that ever did happen. And in my experience, it doesn't happen.

I have used FB's as swim diapers at the beach. I just made it tighter. I also have bought the pull on type of swim diaper at Target (they are cloth and inexpensive).

I've never used FB's in a pool with chlorine. I've only used swim dipes for that.

Take care,

Jen

They are fine to use. In fact, the owner of Happy Heiny's recommends them as swim diapers and has some pools local to her that sell them that way.

I do suppose if you were in the pool a lot with a specific one, it would wear out faster but one use isn't going to hurt.

I still have my old Wonderoos, from when DD1 was in dipes. They're still going strong! I even bought a couple of backstock ones when the twins were born.

I heard somewhere they were making redesigned ones now.

we have a pool and last year I chose one diaper to use in the pool--it was used regularly (almost daily) and by the end of the summer the elastic was shot. It was an AI2 that I unsnapped the soaker from. I wasn't vigilant about rinsing it right away after swimming, but I think had I done that it would have lasted longer.
