Those of you who failed, did you have to fast or did you eat? Mine is a fasting test, nothing for me after midnight.

Really? They make you fast for the one hour? I did the one hour (and passed) and was told I did not need to fast and that if I had to return for the 3 hour test, that was the one to fast for. You might want to double/triple check on that.

I failed it, and I didn't fast before hand. I wasn't given any instructions, just to show up for an hour, so I went in towards the end of the day (around 4pm) and actually had a snack in the car while I was driving there.
I was also very sick with a cold, so I'm wondering if that might have also contributed. I will take the 3 hour test on Thursday, and am supposed to fast before that test.

Yeah, I just called and checked. This is what confuses me about this whole test. Some are told to fast, some are told not to. How can they get accurate results when the testing parameters aren't standard?

:

Are you drinking the orange stuff?

It says right on the label to fast, but my OB actually took a pen and crossed it out in front of me. I called that morning to double check and they said eat away just don't have a giant glass of OJ.

I had a fried egg sandwich two hours before- yum!

I passed.

I had to fast this time. I don't remember having to fast with my last pregnancy.

i failed and was told that i didn't need to fast. i ate some scrambled eggs and a piece of whole wheat toast probably about 2 hours before the test. as someone else mentioned i also saw on the glucola bottle that it said to fast, so who knows.

i am going for the 3 hour on friday only because i have diabetes in my family. i am VERY skeptical about the 1 hour. besides the variation in fasting last time with dd they let me leave so i walked around for awhile. this time they "made" me stay, so i had to sit i really really hate the hospital lab, but i am a wimp about needles and they can get me the first time while my midwives often have to poke more than once. after reading something on the dr. sears website about how you should try to walk during the test i am wondering if that (being sedentary the whole time) isn't why i was a 87 with dd and now am a 144

I was specifically told there was no need to fast for the 1 hour. However, this same issue came up on another due date board I'm on, with same results - some people told to fast, others told not to. It seems to depend on the particular doctor/midwife's preferences....?

I wasn't supposed to fast, but it was so early in the morning I didn't have time to eat, and I failed the test. I should find out the results of my 3 hour today.

Not doing it this time, but with DD, I didn't have to fast (well, they didn't tell me anything either way), got there, had the yummy sprite-like drink, and passed...even having had a plate of cookies the night before!

From what I've read though the 1-hour results are fairly useless most of the time and the 3-hour is much more accruate. Not that I'd prefer to do that one, but it's stupid to make women go through both in that case.

With ds1, I had it done at a chain laboratory. They required a fast. Standard procedure, no whining please. :

With this babe, I had it done in the mw's office. They gave me written instructions that specifically said to eat normally, except to avoid sugary foods. They even gave me the stuff ahead of time to drink at home before my appt, so that I wouldn't have to wait around in the office. No eating or drinking after taking the stuff (which was labelled with instructions to fast for the GD test).

I passed both tests. I definitely hated the first test much more.

I have never been told to fast. I'm having my test tomorrow. I don't know what the bottle says but my hospital gives orange pop in a styro. cup. (yup, regular orange pop)

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to get the results? My OB said
"No news is good news." meaning they won't call me if I passed only if I didn't. I'm wondering when I can quit worrying!

They told me the same thing with DD and I eventually called a couple days later to find out and they said I passed it, so it was no more than about 2 1/2 days at my old OB's office (but they send out all their labwork, too, so it may be shorter other places).

I didn't fast and was not told to fast. I ate a bowl of bran flakes and ate a banana less than 2 hours before having my blood drawn. I failed with a number of 153. I passed my 3-hour with flying colors.

I had mine done at the lab Friday and they sent my results to my midwives Monday. They called me Tuesday then to let me know I failed (the 1 hour) after consulting the doc they cooperate with the make sure I needed the 3 hour. I'd call if you're worried about it. I know that the lab sometimes "forgets" to forward the results so my midwives have to call and bug them. I'm taking the 3 hour this Friday and will probably call Monday for the results just because I'm so darn ready for all of this to be over with!
