I was tickled to find out that one of my blogs was featured on Wired: Geekdad blog yesterday. I figured you ladies would think it's kinda neat.

On the link 6 Great and Geeky Homeschooling Websites my Exploration Station blog got mentioned and one of my photos used. I knew it might happen, but it was still thrilling none-the-less to see it there.

I feel like such a geek, but boy, it's really exciting.

Anybody else get pleasantly surprised to be featured on a high traffic blog?

Congratulations! Has it driven a lot of traffic to you? One of my posts got mentioned on About.com which was cool. The traffic wasn't huge, but it's been steady.

We'll see how long it lasts, but before the article, it was only averaging about 25 hits a day. The day before the article, it was down to 12. The day of the article (friday), it was 190, the next day it was 221, today (Sunday) just 60. So yeah, quite a bit of traffic. It might die down though. And out of all that traffic, only one commenter. But that's okay, even if it dies down it was just cool to be recommended on someone else's blog.

Besides, having an audience means you actually have to keep doing things and I might just wanna be lazy once in a while!

Now that the excitement has passed a bit, what really, really makes me appreciate blogging at all, is the people asking/commenting about selective mutism. There's not much out there on the internet from a personal standpoint of what it's like to have a child with SM, so when I post about it, I have helped others on a very personal level who have children with SM. Or when something I've written about leaving the science field to raise my kids and it reaches another struggling mom and they feel it resonates with them. I get really good vibes from helping someone else while I express myself.

Thank you. I just got done reading some of your blog. It's not at all what I expected when I started reading it, but I do agree, having your own child changes a lot of our world-view and our view of ourselves.

Your daughter is absolutely beautiful!

That's awesome. Last year, my blog was mentioned on EOnline and Yahoo.com as I did some snooping about websites owned by the Big Brother contestant that called the autistic children he worked with "retards."

It is exciting to get mentions like that - screen shot it and put it up on your blog for all to see.
