I'm thinking ahead to next semester because I'm already dreading it. I avoided college for 10 years for 2 reasons, Math and English 101. I need to take Eng 101 next semester and I'm terrified of it! I scored a 97 out of 100 on the college testing so I tested right into the class which is pretty rare from what I understand as most people have to take a lower level class first. Anyway, grammar, structure, that sort of thing I'm fine with but i'm clueless about what the teacher is talking about most of the time! I tried taking it last year and swore she was speaking a foreign language and ended up dropping it and taking reading 99 to learn what the heck she was talking about. Now I feel a bit more prepared but still terrified, especially when most people are needing 3 attempts to pass the class.

The school has a writing center where I can get free tutoring and stuff but I live an hour away and after gas and babysitter I've lost 4 hours just for 1 hour of tutoring and spent a lot of money. Is there some kind of service I can use? I basically need someone to look at my papers and make GENTLE suggestions and not rip me a new one when I make a mistake and clarify things for me when I'm clueless.
