Is anyone versed in OHIP benefits?

I live in VA, but still hold my Ontario Residency (I still pay taxes and all the fun stuff).

We are thinking about TTC and I was thinking about going home to have said maybe baby. Since I live in VA I think I would have to do get most of my prenatal care down here, but I thought I would have the birth in Ontario around friends and family.

Can I even do that?

And if so does anyone know of a good birth center, midwife, OB I can use. (We are based out of Toronto).

TIA

I'm no expert - but I'm pretty sure if you showed up at a hospital in Ontario with a valid OHIP card to deliver the on-call OB would take you. I don't know about going with midwives as they are extremely overbooked and would want to follow you through your pregnancy. If you only wanted to use them at the end - I'm not sure they would go for that - but you could always contact them and find out. There is a website for all the midwife collectives around Toronto. I had a good experience with the Alliance and have known others who have had positive expriences with the Beaches and the Collective. Here is the site. http://www.aom.on.ca/links/ Good luck.

As far as I know you have to have 3 months residency in Ontario before you get free health care. I would suggest checking OHIP's site (if they have one) or calling them to find out.

I hope those two help you out.
