We're having a girl--our first. We had always planned on naming our first daughter Hazel Verona. However, I feel a stronger connection between this baby and another girl name that we liked: Avonlea Jane. What would you do?

I love both names.

We had a list of three names when DS was born. We were pretty sure we would go with James (Jamie), which we did, but we wanted to make sure it fit when we met him.

So you could have Avonlea as a tentative frontrunner, and wait and see! The tough thing is getting family not to start calling her that. My mom kept calling the bellybaby Jamie and I would be like "aaah! it's not decided yet!" : I felt like she was jinxing him.

I had a girl name I loved, too, but when pregnant with DD, I knew her name was Arabella. And it fit--it means answer to a prayer, and she certainly was.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I loved the name Tallulah for a girl when I was pregnant with ds2. Well of course, I couldn't name my SON this so I swore I'd name the next one (if a girl) that. Turns out, when I got pregnant I wasn't "feeling" that name anymore.....maybe it was just mommy intutition telling me that this LO was going to be a boy, I don't know. I'd say go with your heart...if you feel more of a connection with AvonLea (which is a beautiful name) than that is what the baby should be named.

I like both names, but I'm more partial to Hazel...that's my sister's name. I think it's unique, "cool," and natural. Her full name is Hazel Rae, and dad claims it's after an image: a hazel-colored sunbeam in the woods.

Hazel loves her name, by the way.

(Mine is Amber Dawn.)

my sister's name is Hazel and she is such a great, unique woman that IU think Hazel as a name might have a bit to do with it. but i also was a huge anne of green gables fan so avonlea is pretty to me too.

We were pretty sure we were going to name dd Scarlett, but when she arrived, he was nothing like a Scarlett. So we found a name that suited her better. If you're getting vibes from a name connected to your baby, that might be the one. I think we just liked the name Scarlett, but never got a vibe like that. So I agree with the PPs, wait and meet her!
