We live in a small house that rests on a poured concrete slab. It's time to replace carpeting in our daughter's room, and we thought carpet tiles would be a neat way to go. It will be easier to install, too, because we can glue directly to the slab, which is what we've had to do with the hardwoods.

What do you think of this pattern? If you were going to be potential buyers down the road, would this appeal at all? You'll have to scroll down to the bottom of the page, and then click to view a larger swatch of the carpet.

Thanks for your opinions!

By the way, we're also going with carpet tiles because we had extensive flooding in the back of the house. We think we've fixed all of the problems, but thought that the carpet tiles would be good should we have any more water issues.

It's interesting, I think potential buyers will either love it or hate it. If you co-ordinate curtains with whatever color and look you end up with, and have the walls in a color that goes, then it could look great. My other first thought is I would loathe having to remove it later on if every tile was glued down, taking up normal carpet is bad enough. You'll be in your house a while first before you sell right? If you love it then certainly go for it.

Thanks, JamieCatheryn. You make a really good point, that I will definitely raise with DH. I can see why most carpet tiles have adhesive backs, because carpet glue is not supposed to come up. We do plan to be in the house for a few years yet, so that's a consideration, too. Thank you again!

It certainly wouldn't appeal to me, not the tiles, but the checkerboard. Carpet tiles in the same color wouldn't be a factor to me at all.

However, don't know that it would be a deal breaker for me to buy a house if this was in just one room. If it was in the entire house, that would more than likely be a deal breaker, but one room, wouldn't red flag the house for me on that point only.

As a buyer once I figured out they were GLUED down, I would dread having to take them up again.

I personally do not like the patchwork print, but I'm a very "matchy" person. I guess a child's room wouldn't be a deal breaker.

What about carpet tiles that you don't glue down?

I like it, but I also like patchwork and could easily see some of my quilts really being fun to add to a room that had that carpet!

Would you put carpet padding under it? Can you? That would be my concern, we have 2 rough and tumble guys and concrete with just carpet is kinda scary. We have just carpet down over a slab in my sewing room in the basement but they are not allowed to play like that in that room if it was going to be in the kids' room I think I'd want some extra cushion.

Not really something I would want. I think it is too busy for me.

If you think you might have water issues in future you probably don't want to attach them too permanently so you can remove them easier.

After having to remove glued down carpet in our kitchen I would RUN away from another house that had any carpeting glued down! The adhesive combined with the padding create a horrible dusty powdery mess that you have to scrap off the floor! Ucky

When I was a little kid, my bedroom had carpet tiles that were NOT glued down, over padding that was glued to the slab. It was really wonderful because I could pick up some carpet to make a flat place to set up my Fisher-Price people and such, but the rest of the time I had nice soft fluffy carpet to walk on. Oh, and I could make a stack of the tiles and sit on it; that was fun.

I don't care for the patchwork look as shown in the photo. It looks like you got a stack of free samples. I'd go with just two colors.

As an allergy/asthma person, ANY kind of wall-to-wall carpet or carpet tile would be a deal breaker for me.

If I had to have rugs I'd rather it be area rugs over a hard surface (tile, terrazzo, etc), which is what we have in child's room.

We used to live next to a carpet layer. He put carpet tiles in his basement. The way he installed them, they weren't glued at all, just laid down. That way, if any tile was ever damaged, he could just pull it up and replace it. I thought from his conversation that all tiles were like this??? I guess, if you have a room that has an open doorway instead of 4 connected walls, you would have to secure those in the doorway someway...

And, his had backing already attached, it was more rubbery than rolled carpet backing.

I like the idea of carpet tiles but don't really like that pattern. Well, I should clarify that I do like it, but I think that I would get sick of it - so I wouldn't want it at MY house. I'd rather have a neutral carpet and then have other parts of the decor stand out, as opposed to the carpet being the focal point. iykwim
